Hey guys idk if this is the right place to post this but what oil brand should I use for my 05 xb9sx? I went to harely and they said it must be air cooled v twin oil 20/50? If so should I just use the harly brand oil and oil filter? What do you guys use?

I just did mine myself for the first time this season, used AmsOil 20w50, and a KN filer. Same oil for both holes, works great!

just did the same this weekend. The Amsoil works great!

Im out of smart ass things to post in these threads.

Now im just curious, about what you could run in these engines, and get away with it. Abstract stuff that is, like Bacon grease! Would my bike smell awesome? Would it sieze in minutes? Is it more magical than unicorn blood?

AmsOil 20/60 in Both on An XB engine and Tranny. Screaming Eagle 20/50 as long as you change it really close to 2'500 miles. If I'm going to spend my money it is going to be Amsoil 20/60 Oil with Lucas Syn,Oil Stablizer 1/2 pint on an oil change, for 6'000 miles, 34'000 plus miles and still rolling. , You can use 20/50- weight from Napa Castrol Syntec for maybe 4'200 miles..Keep it clean.*Jimi

amsoil motorcycle specific works wonderfully in the primary....which holds 1 quart with full drain.
any quality 20-50 motorcycle specific oil works well in the motor....my fav is castrol act-evo but they're all great. some guys even run Rotella-T 15-40 with excellent results in the motor. full fill with filter change is 2.5 quarts

regarding your filter, go to shit-mart or any auto parts store and look up filter for a 2007 and up Toyota Yaris with the 1.5 liter engine.....or Scion with same engine. THAT filter fits all Buell XB's and is less than $4.

I used to use Mobil 1 V-Twin in all my bikes (Buell XB9SX, various Harleys). I switched over to Rotella T 15-40 after hearing many good things about it and I could not be happier. The engine runs much cooler (fan comes on less often) and runs much quieter (not as much ticking). It's also under $13 for 4 quarts at Walmart. I change the oil and filter every 2500 miles (I typically use a Wix filter or sometimes OEM Buell). There is a reason all the old Harley, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Ducati, etc. guys run the Rotella T 15-40......It's great oil.

In the primary I either run a quart of the Mobil 1 20-50 V Twin or Bel Ray Sport Trans fluid. They both work much better than Harley Formula + in my opinion. I change the trans fluid every 3000-4000 miles.

As long as you use a quality oil (one that does not have an energy saving rating like a car oil has) you should be fine. It really comes down to how often you change it. There are oils that will last thousands of miles, but they all get carbon deposits, fuel dilution, small particles the filter does not pick up, etc. It is better to use a cheaper oil and change it more often than to use a "superior" oil and leave it in too long.

AMSOIL 20W-50 Advanced in the Main/AMSOIL Synthetic SAE 60 in the PRIMARY during the Summer (6 months).

AMSOIL 10W-40 Advanced in BOTH during the Winter below 45 degs (6 months).

LUCAS Oil Stabilizer mixed in the Main for both.

WIX 51394 FILTER
