Hey guys, I just got my 2009 buell xb9sx and noticed these two areas were it looks like oil is coming out.

The first is very slowly coming out from the I believe timing chain tensioner area. Started to come out after it dropped on an incline from a standstill. Its not dripping oil, seems to just come out slightly but not enough to drip.
Heres a picture with it circled in red. I wiped it away the first time but its back.

The second spot is on the other side, im not sure what this area is called. Kinda like the first leak but seems more like that spot just gets a little damp with oil. Not dripping

Help would be appreciated, thanks guys

the first pic you can get new gasket for, hope there is no crack in primary cover. the second pic is push rod cover lower gasket you can get that to but, would try to tighten up allen screws first.

^[up] and pic #1 is your primary drive side. when removing those 3 screws to remove the clutch inspection cover, check the primary fluid level. hold bike OFF sidestand and as close to vertical as possible. oil level should be at bottom of geear teeth......the teeth you will see inside at bottom of hole you will be looking thru. much more fluid than that and the primary tends to weep oil as in your situation.

Mine primary does it too. If and I repeat if, it really bothers you a small amount of Hondabond (semi-drying gasket) could be applied in a very thin manner to the spot that is leaking. Make sure the metal is very clean first. Use rubbing alcohol. Then apply to case, both sides of gasket and cover. Let flash off for 1 min. Then install. I use it for valve end cover caps on vintage Jap bikes. It's the best (3-bond, Yamadond, Hondabond it's all the same).

The second oil seepage, is the lower push rod cover seal. Its an un common failure, but a pain in the ass to fix, requires the head and jug to be removed to replace.

Yesterday, I found a similar leak under my bike.

It looked like the same kind of leak as the first image from OP, but then when I looked under the bike, it looked like it was leaking from the bolt holding the shift lever. I didn't think that made sense and then I found a lot of dirty oil around the clutch cable connection.

When I went to check and see if the connector (nut?) was loose, it appeared that it wasnt connected to anything, and that there was nothing there to screw it onto.

My bike has always made a loud noise, sometimes louder than the exhaust. It sounds "throaty", like it air moving or something. I have noticed it comes from the primary side. I recently changed the oil in the swing arm but didn't change the primary oil. The day before this leak, the "throaty" loud seemed louder and the shift between 1st and 2nd was harder (also found neutral several times).

2 questions:

1) What should the connector (nut?) in the last image attach to? I can wiggle it around, is there a hollow shaft that has snapped off inside the connector?

2) Does the primary get louder as oil gets lower? I have several GoPro videos where the sound is obvious, I'll try to extract the audio, or post a link to a dropbox video, since that will be WAY more useful then my "throaty" description.

Thanks.

Your cable broke off in the case looks like

When you say the cable broke, do you mean I need to replace the cable because of the clutch cover? I ask only because the clutch is still functional.

If it needs to be replaced, is this a part that a Harley/Buell dealership is likely to on hand, (same clutch cable as Sportsters?)? I'm asking so that I know if I'm better off trying to buy one here in the forums.

Thanks guys. I hope to replace the primary oil tonight but I want to resolve this leak first so that I don't leak out the new oil.
