I just bought my bike a month ago it is a 2008 xb12Ss with 10,000 miles I noticed last night after cleaning it that it is leaking oil on the top back side of motor (rocker I am guessing) there is oil around the fan an on some of the wires an tubes up towards top of engine i cant really tell where it is coming from I am not a mechanic so i will be taking it to a bike shop.....was wondering if any one had to have new rocker gaskets put in by a shop an how much they are going to rape me for?[sad]

yup it was after i accidently over filled the oil.. Rocker cover gasket.. get it fixed asap.. makes i mess.. i put it off for awhile... wish i wouldnt have
goodluck

chad: what you might consider is finding friend or someone close by who knows sportsters and evo top ends, and can read simple directions i could link forward to you. you rotate the motor forward, guy a set of either James or Cometic top end gaskets which are neoprene over steel as opposed to factory rice paper shit type, and just do it with help and basic tools. not very difficult and if you want the link to the best visual directions i've ever seen on doing this let me know. probably save yourself $400 or more in the process.

Did mine by following wiznut's video plus online shop manual and had great input from forum members, just take your time and you will be fine, got my gaskets from my local H-D shop, they are still one of the few dealers that won't look at you funny when you say the word Buell:D.

Before you take it to a bike shop take your airbox cover and your bottom airbox plate off that way you can see the top of your engine and see if it's your PVC valves are leaking or where exactly where it leaking oil is coming from. There is several threads and probably even videos on YouTube or in Daves videos on how to remove your airbox cover and to remove any kind of wire plug harnesses so that you don't damage anything check those out easy to do.

thanks.....i checked under airbox the top of rocker cover is clean it looks like its dripping down the fins on the back side of bike so im guessing it has to be gasket

I have to do this job as well. I went to the ASB link and the gaskets I need seem to be 03-06 years only. I have an '07 STT. Are the '03-'06 right for me or do I have to look elsewhere. I keep missing Al when I call ASB.

I need to know which fork seals to buy as well if you guys know that too.

ChadK8604, good luck on the job. I hope it goes well for you.

[EDIT]: I see that the rubber over steel variety that ASB sells don't work on '07+ I'll be getting the OEM units.

Does anyone have the information or part number for the James rocker cover gasket? I am having a heck of a time finding it. I have an '07 Firebolt XB12R.
