went to start my bike up this evening because it has been about 3 weeks since it was last ran and i noticed a quarter sized oil leak. i traced it back to the rear cylinder. i also noticed that there is oil in the airbox. why would it be leaking oil and how can i fix it? its a 07 xb12ss lightning 11100 miles.

Looks like your rockerbox gakset is leaking. Needs to be replaced. You'll need to rotate your engine. There is a good "how to" thread in the do it yourself section of this forum. I would replace the gasket in the front cylinder aswell. Good luck.

Rotating the motor down is the hardest part of the job. But it's not bad. It took me about 4 hours to get the motor out of my frame.

thanks for the help! any suggestions on which gaskets to go with? annd im guesing that using a rear bike stand is a must for this fix?

I used the stock Harley gaskets. They redesigned them to be a little beefier. But other guys use different brands. Can't remember the names.

Yes. I highly recommend it. You can of course suspend the frame in the roof of your garage or any other clever solution. But i would recommend a rear bike stand. You will need it for other repairs later anyways, might as well get one.

A bike stand is a should have tool in my opinion for anyone who does their own maintenance... It makes alot of stuff Sooooo much easier...

Yeah. I've got the convenience of a 5 ton chain fall on a steel I-beam in the rafters of my garage! :D
