'06 XB12ss w/ 5500 miles. I was getting off the bike today and I stepped in a hole w/ my right foot and wasn't expecting it, so the bike tipped to the right. I caught it and brought it back upright, but the oil pressure light came on. I let it run for about 5 seconds and shut it off. Oil level is fine (oil was warm from my ride), so I let it sit for about 15 min, started it again for ~10 seconds and it was still on. Then I did the same but left the dipstick unscrewed to let air out, but the light is still on. The bike isn't making any noises outside of the ordinary so I'm assuming nothing is damaged.

I'm guessing I have an air bubble in the line? Does that make sense w/ a dry sum system? Where is the oil pressure sensor/switch located at? Maybe an oil change will fix it?

I noticed the service manual says "air-bound oil-line" but offers no solution to the cause. Is there a specific way to purge air from the lines?

+1 on R&R the oil filter. Fill the filter w/ oil before you install it.
glad you were able to catch it.

Hey good call. This morning I loosened the oil filter just a bit, heard some gurgles and then tightened it back up. A wee bit of oil squeezed out from the filter o-ring, wiped it off, started it up and the light went away almost instantly. Rev'd it after a min to about 2,000 and held it there and it stayed off.

I normally would have changed the oil and filter but it's labor day and the bike is my vehicle while I was putting a new water pump in my car, so I couldn't exactly go anywhere [sad]

normally a bike doesnt go that route unless its dropped,,,it goes the other way with stoppies & wheelies. it probably just lost some oil tilted sideways vs being inverted/raised up. :D

I think its a great time for a oil change.99% sure the light will go out and on the first ride the bike will thank you....

Sorry that is with new filter or take the filter off and dump it then fill it with fresh oil along with your oil change.
