Hello all,

I recently purchased a 2003 xb9s lightning and do not have an owners manual for it. I am looking to service it soon and was curious at to what oil type it takes. If anybody can help me out there i would appreciate it.

Try doing a search for oil at the top of the page. most oils are user prefrence, but a good 20 50 weight synthetic like royal purple or amsoil are recomended.
And welcome to the forum, lots of good info on here.

Mobil 1 V-twin here....can be had off the shelf conveniently from Wal-mart or most any Auto Parts store. You'll need 1 Qt. for the Primary (Trans.) and 3 Qts. for the Engine. You can use 20W50 in both. You can download manuals off of Buellmods.com. There's an Oil change video: HERE. Welcome to the Board. ;)[up]

10w40 for the engine, 20w50 for the primary.

You're going to get a list of every brand out there, me, I believe in frequent changes more than in any brand. Whatever's on sale. Actually, I watch the flyers and buy ahead.

Very good video in the DIY section.

Pay attention to the torque values. DON'T FOLLOW ANY MANUAL FOR THE DRAIN PLUG TORQUE.
