i currently ride a 1997 ninja zx6e and am looking to get a newer larger bike. i love the way that the buells look but have never ridden a v twin bike. in the firebolt forum a few weeks ago i was told the xb12r may not b that much faster than what i have. Not nowing much about these bikes i know they are all about handleing witch i love but where does this 1125r stack up. what type of power does it make. how would it compare against my bike in acceleration? i have some money saved up but i probably only have one shot at this and want to buy the right bike the first time around. thanks for the info.

The main difference between an inline4 and a v-twin is the rpm limits.
You can get into the bore n stroke of each motor and that all has a big part of it too, but thats a whole nother discussion.

I4s make some crazy HP at rpms that a v-twin will never see, now I'm talking stock motor to stock motor.
But the v-twin makes crazy torque off the line and most hold it to at least 1/2 to 3/4 rpm range.
Torque is what gives you acceleration to a certain speed, HP is what keeps you at a given speed over distance.
So the whole "sport bikes are no fun going slow" is because of the lack of the trq that the v-twin makes.
So its a classic trade off, I4 if you want to blast down the road at 150+ mph, or v-twin stop light to stop light fun.

But also be prepared for the somewhat lack of aftermarket support, that you get from the main 4 Jap factories, Honda, Yama, Suki n Kawi.
Most of the aftermarket we get is someone thought something would be a good idea and found a way to make it happen out of their garage.

To me it just depends on what you have fun with.
My 2 track days I did, I got passed on the front straight by a # of ppl, got back into the turns and I lined one up after another and pass them right back.
I know I'll never do 150+ mph, and am completely ok with that.
I guess I really am getting older now.

Anyway, just my $0.02
Gl hunting

CT hit the nail on the head with that one. its all about your riding style i love the twisties so i love the way the buell handles em. that and the CR is a rare bike it turns a lot of heads. (I know this is the R section)

I would put my 1125r agianst any 600 hell i was nearly running over my instructor couch with a full race prepped 600 on track days.
the 1125r is full of power and torque.
The xb's have torque
the i4 has hp
1125 has both.
There still alot of great deals on them the a red 1125r in the classfieds here for like 6k.
You won't be sorry.
My gf now rides my xb9r
Fun narrow bike wich is a little easier to toss around.
But my 1125r keeps up with everything

apples and oranges xb is slower than a 600,1125 is about the same as gsxr 750 in hp and torque.1125 has more tq 750 more hp.performance is about the same

so the xb12r is possibly going to be a slower bike than my 600 but the 1125r is a faster bike all around through the turns and on the straights. are the 1125r's also 5 speeds?

I think we discredit the XB's too quickly when it comes to performance. I would race any bike around to the speed limit and win! It is useful performance not race performance. If you are looking for a track bike the 1125 will kill anything, but as a street bike a long stroke v-twin is king!

an xb runs mid 11s a 600 high 10s a 1125 mid 10s 750 low 10s the 1000s mid-high 9s.i perfer the xb but the numbers dont lie 1125s dominate when running against 600s in the class they run in you wont find an 1125 running against any litre bike in a pro race.

yeah im looking for 750 performance but really want something different than a ninja or gsxr and italian bikes are way to exspensive. are replacement parts plentiful for these bikes if something breaks. i know with my older ninja zx6e i can pretty much go to the dealer and get anything in a few days. but they made that model for a long run. how are the 1125's to get parts for? are they fairly reliable bikes?

yes and no took a week to get a new belt,3 months for a fuel pump,3 days for oil lines.my lightning is in the top 3 bikes ive owned.and gets the most attention of any bike iv ever owned.if you want something along 750 performance go with an 1125.imo if you could give the xb 15 more hp and 1 more gear it would be perfect

The 2009/10 1125 has a charging issue a few of us are working on a perment fix.
2008 1125s are pretty solid.
I really have no desire for anything bigger than my 1125r. it has enough power it feels like it is about to rip your arms out of socket and will eat any Busa up in curves.
I have ridden away from plenty older liter bikes.
The thing i did notice on my xb last time i road it is the easy to chug in 4 gear in traffic for a around town bike or carving the xb is great.

before my 1125R, I had a Triumph Sprint ST 1050, before that a CBR600

the 1125R will tear either of those up. It's just a fantastic bike

I never thought much of V twins before. I grew up an inline 4 guy. Till I rode a buddy's 1098 Ducati. Wow, impressive.

Then I bought the 1125R and I'm just loving this bike

A strong V twin like this is a fantastic street motor

I agree with everything that has been stated. My 1125 is something that I am proud of and will never get rid of.

Dude your Buell will turn more heads than any other Uncle Bens rice rocket. Stand out from the others and go with the Buell!
