When I went to class last night I turned the key just a bit too far past the wheel lock position and left my accessory lights on (was still daylight out, so didn't notice). Three hours later when I came out she was completely dead, wouldn't do anything. Fortunately one of my classmates had cables with him, so I was able to get a jump and get it home on the tender...but still felt like a dumb ass!

Anyone have any stories of killing their battery that'll make me feel better?:D

That one is all just people doing stupid stuff on their bikes...I want to hear about where people have been when they killed their battery and what they did to get it back up and running!

I left mine in the parking lot of Wal-Marts once, not entirely sure yet what killed the battery but it was dead. Went and bought a new battery is all.

I did that, only i have the wires swapped up front to run both headlights. When you do this your headlights come on when turned to Acc. and my battery got drained pretty fast. I was at home so i just rolled it in my shed and charged the battery.

That's the way mine is set up, too...if I hadn't been in such a hurry to get to class I probably would have noticed it...

Been there, done that ! The day I brought my 09 SS home, did the same thing, turned the key a little too far and came out about 5 hrs later to a dead battery. This is the first time anyone else has heard about it! [smirk]

Don't tell anyone else !;)

Last time I did that, I went to the track to spectate one day, and had left my key turned on. Luckly I was at the track and had literally 90 people who had cables or chargers to spare.

Three hours later when I came out she was completely dead,

and there's nothing quite like that "CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK" noise our bikes make when the battery is dead to make every single person around you turn and stare at you to wonder what in the world you're doing.

Haha, no kidding...it's like the walk of shame heading back inside to ask someone for cables, too.

i prevent myself from doing this by turning the switch all the way and then one back to the handle bar lock. got in the habit of doing this, i do it every time the keys come out. have not had a bad situation like this fortunately.

I have done this too , after about a 10 hour day of work at 2am, I had to get a jump, luckily I didnt have to wait to long to find someone to jump the Buell. I have had to jump my some the oler POS cars I used to own and sit on the side of the for an hour two once in a car waiting for someone to stop and give me a jumpstart, because it died and battery was dead too, most people seem like they wont stop to much anymore to help out, unless it's freezing cold and ice and snow everywhere, and even then some dont care to help you. but thats a different story.

more of leaving it in park light mode.

I got home from work a couple weeks ago and pulled into the garage. As always I killed it with the switch. It was getting to be dusk, so I should've noticed that i didnt turn the key off at all. Went out to the garage the next morning to go to school and nothing. Thank God I had my Indian here too. I turned the key off, then hooked her up to the battery tender. That evening when I got home from work, she was ready to rock.

Miami i did the same thing as you at work last summer!, i push started mine! :)

i also was halfway home from homecoming (about 1.5 hours left) when my bike started jerking, and engine light was coming on frequently. I was like crap my bike is broken, so i called my dad, and had him bring his truck to the mcdonalds i pulled over at. When he got there i finally got the bright idea to check my battery connection. Well wouldnt you know, it was loose, so i tightened it up, and rode it home! My dad ended up driving 1.5 hours for no reason! :)

Ha! my friend bought a lightning and he parked his and turned the key too far back and drained the battery. He charged it and then took it to Harley thinking it was a bad battery even though it said good and waisted a great riding day. I remember that day well.

Left my ACC on anf the tail light was light all night but I was able to push start it the next morning.

Killed my battery plenty "O" times. ;) I just push started it. No jump start need. All you need to do is get going in first gear with the clutch held tight. Two people pushing you or going down a hill works best. Make sure the key is turned to the on position. Then release the clutch lever quickly when going as fast as the push will get you. Walla! magically started bike. I even did this in manual transmission truck and cars ;)

does not work too well if the battery is completely dead on a fuel injected bike...you need at least enough juice for your fuel pump to prime.
