I have a question hoping someone knows the answer too. I have an 08 Firebolt XB12R and I took it took work today. On my way home there was a lot of traffic and I was idling quiet a bit. My bike really started to get hot. I made it home an hour later and my top speed was like 40 miles. When I got home I noticed how hot my bike was actually getting because both of my thighs were burnt. The insides of my thighs have burns on em and my right leg is way worse than my left. I dunno why it got so hot! It was like 92 degrees here today and I know I was idling a lot but should my bike burn me when i'm just riding it normal? Can someone help?!?! Thanks.

Sounds normal. There are things you can do to make it less hot. Ceramic header, special ops heat shield, and right side scoop.

Your bike is air-cooled.
When you idle a lot, as you said, it can get VERY hot.
To the point where you can damage it.

About HOW LONG were you idling?

Thanks for the info,

Are you using a fully synthetic bike oil? If not, that will help some. Also, don't know how modded your bike is, but a re-map goes a LONG way to making these bikes run cooler.

Otherwise, like Dave said, ceramic-coated header, RSS, heat shields, etc. are other options. But for around $100, IMHO, the remap would be the way to go.

I also have an 08 Firebolt. They do get hot and everything said above will help with these issues. BUT. Im not sure if ur saying u never got over 40mph or ur bike COULDN'T go over 40mph? Also iv done lots of idling around big cities in the summer and have never burnt myself.

If ur on ur break in period (first 500 miles.) its going to run very hot for those miles and u might want to stay away from inner city commuting till ur past the break in period.

Good luck!

I don't have a ceramic coated header but I do have mine wrapped with heat wrap and it is a world of difference all around.

Although everything above will definitly help, being an air cooled bike there is really no cure to the problem. It will run hot but what has been mentioned can help keep it barable.

My tank got very hot yesterday in traffic, but I was wearing regular jeans. When I wore my kevlar's I didn't notice much at all.

I've recently ordered a right side scoop for that very reason. I havent gotten it yet but I'm hoping it will cool this beast a little better.
