I finished a tail swap a few days ago and finally got a chance to ride my bike. after a spirited ride i got to a bar and shut it off. after a beer (20mins or so) i came back out and got a rapid flashing CEL which the manual says is a engine temp light. My fan runs and the oil level is full. After limping it home i could hear the oil boiling in the engine :( it never knocked or anything but i am clueless where to start.

maybe you forgot to plug something in after your tail swap. or maybe someone f'ed with it while you were in the bar.

i guess i should have listed the mods - right side scoop - gutted factory muffler - stock air box - stock filter - i dont have ECM spy. this was the first ride this year after 3 months of sitting.

Your bike is telling you to not drink and ride...
but there are so many bars on the ride we took it would have been wrong not to have just 1 beer

i was thinking about the forgetting to plug something in. but what, besides the fan could i have forgot to plug in that would cause an overheat? and it was an outside bar. i was staring at it the whole time lol

Factory programming is lean to begin with, plus you have a gutted muffler. I bet if you switch to the race map you won't have an issue anymore.

My bike ran very hot, I switched to the race map and it runs much cooler. Also the NGK iridium spark plugs (the ones one heat range cooler) would help too. The PN is DCPR9EIX.

I'd get ecmspy and a cable and start there.

ill try the plugs and see if that helps. im trying to avoid any programing.

Ok, I think they are ~$6 a piece IIRC.

Why don't you want to do any tuning?

Flashing the whole race map (without really custom modifying anything) is really easy and straightforward.

I don't really wanna flash it because I am extremely illiterate when it comes to tuning. ill rebuild a small block any day over tuning something lol

I hear you. Well I think it may be in your bike's best interest, lol. I'm not good with computers and tuning either but I figured it out (with some help). I actually wrote up some really clear straight forward directions just to flash the race map. I'm sure you could figure it out.

Stupid PA. I was about to volunteer, but decided to map it first. Your state is too big. I'm 25min from PA, but 5.5 hours from you. shenanigans.

The flash is easy, you should try it yourself. $20 wire and a laptop, then 10min to do it.

zeroflat24, if you want I can email you the "directions" I saved for myself. I've sent them to a few people in the past and they've been able to follow them and get the job done.
