Just venting.

Took my fork to have the seal replaced, should have done it myself. The nut at the top was slightly rounded and extremely tight from the previous owner. The guy at the place ended up putting vise marks on the tube to get the nut off. I'm sorry but any furniture salesman who turns a wrench in his lean-to garage after work could have cave-manned the job like that. ****, I can put it in a vise and crank the **** out of it. I figured a vintage bike place with beautiful equipment and beautiful bikes everywhere wouldn't do **** work. AND CHARGE ME FULL PRICE, AND THEN TELL ME THAT'S THE BEST THEY CAN DO.

I don't understand how you service classic bikes all the time, and make that kind of mistake, and then charge full price, and make like it's okay.

I've used a good quality strap wrench on many occasions that required some pretty heavy torque. I chalk this up as stupidity and I would be looking at having them replace the forks completely. If their process could have possibly damaged your forks more they should have notified you. You didn't take the forks into them in that condition I would say they ruined the forks and definitely don't be quiet about it.[mad][mad]

Threaten to get legal with them if they don't replace the problem since it is their fault. I am sure they will have no problem buying a new fork to stay away from legal matters.

I would go to the owner first and explain the situation. If he doesn't offer anything, then fire the legal threats.

I personally would post some "don't ever go here" comments on Yelp, and in the motorcycle section on craigslist.

and I spent all day thinking about how to be about it, they called to say it was done and the fork had marks, then I spent all day at work deciding exactly how to tackle it. I wanted $20 off.

Buell_Cru, that's exactly what I thought they should use.

I had a body shop do some damage to my truck, few hundred dollars worth, I simply explained it was their fault, took pictures and told them it was their decision to fix it now or after I got a hold of a lawyer.

Needless to say they schedule their next open appointment to fix the damages.

just move on dont let it eat away at ya...ride the bike and enjoy it...you where willing to forget about it for twenty bucks...

i understand that, and as a small business owner myself, I normally would say "eh, I can see that" and move on. But the impression of the attitude is what pissed me off. They made me feel like I wasn't entitled to an explanation or adjustment, like I was trying to get something for nothing. I HAPPILY PAY FULL PRICE FOR GOOD WORK. It's marred, most that could happen is if there's clear on it which I bet there is, now it can start flaking. I'm sorry but I paid for a service and was returned a damaged article. You want your car waxed and would be okay getting it back with scratches from the guy leaning over it with his jeans zipper against it? Had to get the top of the hood good so you'll just have to deal with the scratches? I dunno.

Be it a big time shop, or a ma-and-pa corner fixit shop... doesn't matter, you are paying for a professional service and should receive (and expect to receive) a professional finished product.

They are required by law to furnish you with the finished product as promised for the price they promised. Had they told you there was the potential for damage then you would be up ****'s creek without a paddle. But since they didn't, they are liable for ANY damage that was done.

Stick it to 'em.

I expect the my goods to be returned in the same shape as I gave them to someone. You paid for a service from people which claim they are professionals. You now have new fork seals, but your forks look like **** now and are subject to even further chipping. This is completely unacceptable and I would not settle for this, or $20.

yea I had dad drop it off and I guess he signed their liability waiver. Either way, I went back up and SHOWED him how it looked, and he still argued for a good 10 mins. trying to justify it. I said bottom line, I could have used my inginuity to build a jig to hold it, period. I PAID him to do a professional service, I want a new fork tube. He kept saying no and that he wouldn't refund either. Eventually he gave me a full refund though. Whatever.

That's just ridiculous for them to not replace the fork. I've replaced many a fork seal in my days and i know its very aggravating job but damn.
