anyone here ride their buell real far? i travel a lot for business and therefore ride for hours straight daily. sometimes my knees & butt start to hurt. im just wondering what anyone has done to help with this? any crazy mods anyones done? im not worried about riding for 1 or 2 hour, im used to that, but my girl goes to school 7 hours away in the U.P. of Michigan & its BEAUTIFUL riding this time of year, just SO far. im not takin my dads superglild ether.

Sound like you're gettin old! haha j/k. The only thing that bugs me about long rides is my sweaty ass. I know its gross, but I seriously got a blister on my ass once. I plan on getting a Corbin seat to make things more comfy. And as far as ass moisture goes, I hear there is a product called "anti monkey butt powder"

BC, where in da UP is she going to school? I'm originally from up there, graduated from NMU... And I would agree, that is an absolutely beautiful area to ride in.

Anyway... I tried that anti-monkey-butt powder on a 1000 mile 4 day weekend and it seemed to help with the sweat issue dave brought up.

I was browsing thru the harley dealer up in Marquette about a month ago and found some pretty cool air pads that just sit on top of your seat, they were pressure adjustable. They seemed pretty cool, definitely comfy. Expensive though.

got the knee thing...get water in my right knee after long rides.

know several guys who solve the butt problem with those tight cyclypants...[smirk]

yeah she goes to NMU too, i wonder if icey-hot on my knees before & after would help. my ass doesnt sweat, just gets sore. i hope im not getting old already at 22, but i did play hockey thru college, so my knees are pretty tore up.

how about the scg pegs that are a tad lowwer? just an idea but ill probably get shot down:p

are they lower, i didnt think the pegs were any lower, the seat height is lower, but i think the pegs are the same & that would be worse on my knees. but im not sure...

Iv ran from Central Washington up to Vancouver on my bike 5 or so time now. Its 4 hours one way, not too bad. I ride a XB12R and have no probs. Stock seat, and pegs. My only prob is the anxiousness I get after not stretching my legs after 2 hours or so. Just take 5 when you fill up, circulate the blood and stretch is all I can advise. Also the lightning pegs are lower, but I think you need the mounting brackets also. Not too sure, good luck!

I got the foot peg kit, and it's helps just a bit. You don't really notice it, but yes, it does help I guess... A good seat would be very helpful.

How bout someone out there fab up some "highway pegs" for our bikes?

1) make them where they can be easily removed

or

2) build them so they would double as stunt cage/sliders

That would be awesome [up] or maybe im havin a brain fart, just throwin it out there [cool]

alright, well if its not cold as hell & raining, im gonna try it. long way, but what the hell.

yeah a nice big corbin seat it looks ugly but if your happy who cares, and dave xb12r i use baby powder for my swap ass!ha ha no joke

The CityX seat is higher and straight across so you can change position on it. If it fits your bike, it'd help. Several of the guys I ride with, like the bicycle short thing. Say it really works. Several guys I ride with use sheep skin. Most who do SWEAR by it.

My knees cramp real bad. Can't go more than 10 hours a day. Found that frequent stops, maybe twice per fill-up, help a lot. I take Aleve and Aspirin before and during long trips. Helps with the knees.

Also, note that the riding position on your bike may get you leaning forward a bit. This puts stress on the upper leg and lower back muscles. You're forced against the wind. If you keep the back straight and sit up more it takes the pressure off your legs, back and wrists. That helps too. I like to change position often and even lay on the tank sometimes.

Try dragging a leg for a stretch. Don't actually drag it on the ground. Just let it off the peg and behind you. Best to have tight pants though. Also try the sideways (side saddle) position. All these things help.

If all else fails. Get a harley...

JUST KIDDING! DAMN!!! :(

Overheard conversation between two Buellers checkin' out a Sporster;
"Look! It's like a Buell, only not as cool!!!"

sit side saddle? while riding? not sure im ready for that yet. sometimes i do sit on the back seat for a while. changes position & lets some of the hot air off the rear cylinder vent & cool down better.

You don't throw you leg over the tank!
Just turn like yer lookin' behind you to extend one leg out a bit...
LOL!!!

oh, okay, thats understandable. i got up there & my bike got knocked over the first night, broke off the left peg, left (only) bar end mirror, dented frame, etc.
so to get home i had to move the passenger peg up to drivers peg spot & thats like an inch higher, so my left leg was REAL cramped!

I have the same problem with the knee. I just got done riding from Germany into France with an overnight in Switzerland, then to Italy...stayed the night, drove through Slovenia into Budapest, Hungary...stayed the night, then to Prague in the Czech Rep...stayed the night again...then back home to Germany. Didn't have any problems with my ass...but man did my right knee kill me on the long hauls. City riding and going over passes I was fine... but the long stretches of highway between fill-ups were killers...and I am old (38). I'm looking into lower pegs (I already have an XB12Scg) and a new seat that raises me up a bit so there is less stress on my knee. I'm looking at the "Select" seat from Buell. It'll raise me up a bit, and provide a little more padding than the Scg seat I have now. Hopefully it will work.
