i know people have done this. I want my engine covers to be black but im concerned that paint might not hold up. For those of you that have painted did it hold up very well over time?

WHen I have asked this most people have said powder coat is better but I dont see why heavy duty grill type or engine enamel wouldn't be fine

obviously powder coat is better. maybe i should just get a quote. anyone know how much it typically costs.

I painted my Chevelle's block with VHT and it's holding up great! I'm planning on doing my XB9's headers if I don't wrap them first.

wow that stuff looks pretty nice. i wonder if the case paint or barrel paint would be better than the engine enamel.

Powder coating is cheap. Engine disamble not. Unless u do it yourself of course.

im not too worried about the engine disassembly. that part will be the cost of a new gasket.

is the factory finish on the case a paint or powder coat? I have an 04 and the case is that silverish tan color.

I used duplicolor truck bed liner on my Uly in the spring of last year. Other then one small spot that had to be re-touched, its holding together extremely well. (insanely easy to touch up) It will cost you about 15$ for a rattle can of the liner. You won't need more then one can, and you could probably do a decent job with the covers still on the bike. I was looking to duplicate the stock look of the XB9.

If you are doing the disassemble/assemble yourself you probably wont spend more then $100 to have it powder coated though.

Here's what mine looks like:

Buellysses- That looks great! I just may have to try that on my tail frame! Oh, and where did you come across that Evolution glove box? I work at a bioscience university and get those in all the time. Random curiosity.

wow nice tip buellysses, ill look into these options. this is exactly why i posted. people often come up with unique solutions that you may not think of yoruself.

Pockets; I have no idea where we got them or what we use them for. I work for a contractor (power plant maintenance) apparently we use them somewhere. :) I just needed a box to paint on so my shop manager wouldn't tack my balls to his office door for getting bed-liner all over his floor.

You should have seen the look on his face when he walked in to his shop and saw this on a Saturday:
