My wife has a GS500 and the windshield was painted by the previous owner with what looks like rattle can paint. What can I use to get this off without messing up the windshield?

Unfortunately, you're looking at sanding it down with 400 grit and starting over. It won't be clear again without A LOT of effort. If you want it clear, I'd highly suggest buying a new one.

not true, look up how to get scratches out of acrylic aquariums. I have had to do it. sand down the area with 400+, it turns a hazy white and then there is some polish you put on a buffing wheel. comes out like new.

Well right. Like I said, 400 and A LOT of effort. Polishing takes a lot of patience and time.

Dallas- if you really want to save it and not replace it, start with 400, go to 600, and then 1000 wet sand. 3M makes a polishing compound that works great on bad scratches in clear coat. Shouldn't be much different on polycarbonate.

Alright thanks for the info guys. Is there any tips or tricks that I should know about first?

don't do straight lines with the sand paper and see if you cant get a sanding block because your hand will apply uneven pressure

I know brake cleaner takes paint right off but not sure about the clarity issue. I used it a few times on my airbox when I painted it with a rattle can.

Not trying to Hyjack the thread, but it does say painted plastic... Is there a inexpensive paint that won't chip off after a few days, I like the red, but I'm thinking of going with some blue in there as well.

I used the krylon fusion paint. so far, so good. It's only chipped where the seat sits on the airbox cover.
