Big twin, so is the buell black rattle can basically a satin black finish? I'm looking to do essentially the same thing to my frame and swing arm as you, but because I've pretty much screwed up every rattle can job I've ever done, I'm thinking I should do it out of a gun (I have access to a booth and all that jazz) so I'm going to at least mildly color match

I'm about to paint the aluminum piece of the rear swing arm that removes for belt insertion on my 09 long. I have stripped the old paint off and polished off any deposits. I am thinking to apply 2 coats of self etch primer, then the OEM Buell Phantom Metallic spray. Is that correct or am I missing something?

Instead of the Buell satin black, why not John Deere Blitz Black? I found it for $6-7 a can and once spraypainted a motorcycle's fenders. Turned out pretty well with three coats and the paint it fairly resilient since it's used to protect farm equipment.

The satin black goes on parts like the tail and seat braces. I believe the phantom black metallic goes on the frame and swingarm.
