I want to paint the insert on my chin guard a satin black. I would prefer not to put something on there that has ant excessive texture to it (like rhino-liner etc). I'm concerned since it sits directly behind the front wheel and gets the brunt of what the tire throws back at it. What have you guys used that has proved to be good against chipping? Thanks!

I used rustoleum flat black rust stop spary. I have about 50 miles on it since I painted it and it seams to hold up. The texture of the piece holds the paint nice and rust stop spray dries super quick

I used that stuff on my tail and wasn't too impressed honestly. Seemed like it chipped easily from stones and even from removing the seat. Please give us an update on the chin after a few more miles. I'm interested to see how it holds up for you.

Anyone else have any experiences to share with painting the chin fairing??[confused]

I'll have to check but I know I also used their primer so I was expecting better results. Is the "stops rust" supposed to be more durable?

i used krylon fusion on mine. several coats with a few coats of clear. it came out pretty good. its a lot easier if you drill out the rivets and just put some new pop rivets in after. looks really nice, cant comment on durability because i just finished it a couple days ago and i havent ridden it yet. it was hard for me to get the grime and grease off for the paint to stick, i ended up sandblasting mine to get the results i wanted.

if you want black you can buy just the center section that already comes black. part number M0698.02A8AMBE It should be $31.00

Awesome!! Thanks for that part number!! I didn't know you could buy just the center...[up]

I had mine professionally painted last summer, looking at it the other day it already has some rock chips in it.

Just the nature of the beast, it's in an area that's prone to chips. Truck-bed liner is going to hold up better then a paint will. If you are super concerned about not re-painting it every so often I would suggest looking into 3M's paint protection film. It's going to cost you about 10$ / square foot, and may defeat the purpose of your satin finish. (the stuff is super glossy)

the stops rust seemed to bond better to be where the enamel seemed kind of brittle... I actually tried to scratch the stops rust on purpose and it didnt leave a mark with my finger nail it will on the enamel
