I got this as part of the deal when I bought my Lightning. It's a Dobeck Performance FI-1045ST. "Fits all injected Buells"
http://dobeckperformance.com/TFI/TFItechnology.asp

I have all the instructions. It's a pretty simple unit. It piggybacks WITH your computer (including race ECM's) and adds injector dwell (timing) in 4 distinct, adjustable areas.
In the pic you can see it hooks into the O2 sensor, injector plugs, and a ground.
It's adjusted by the trimpots inside so theres no data logging, no cords to make/buy, no fuel "maps", no program to learn/buy, and if you mess it up real bad... just un-plug it and start over when you feel like it[:D]

I doubt it's as good as a race EBR ECM, but it sure is a whole lot easier than a custom program!
I used it to get rid of the factory "Lean" settings on my XB-12 and I liked it a lot, now I have a race ECM, pipe, and K&N. I won't be doing enough mods to need even more fuel.

$110 shipped to the lower 48. PM here, or e-mail [email protected]

It probably fits on Sportsters too, that's why they are all so much faster than our Buells;)

When I bought my bilke there was one installed on it and it caused the bike to buck like a bronco, Junk. It shorted out I guess or it made the ecm chase its tail.

That is a pretty old box, looks kinda like their TFI. I've got their Gen 4 AFR plus on top of the EBR ecm on my bike. The AFR gauge is mounted just above the airbox, under the translucent cover. You don't really notice it unless you know its there. I had them dyno tune it when they put it on the bike. I had a "flat spot" I could feel between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm, the bike runs much better now. They tuned it with my stock ECM as well, and said it worked a little better with the Race ECM.

When we have full access to our ECM so this seems unnecessary. What do the pots do? When you turn a screw at what rpm/tps are you increasing the trim value? Then how do you compensate for nearby cells to ensure a smooth transition? With several programs out on the internet we can fully program and tune our bikes. No need for an aftermarket ecm or add-on controller. The guys at ECMSPY have mapped all of our ecms. If we didn't have access I could see this being a very useful tool but with an ecm cable and some free time you can tune every aspect of your bike.

You must be the only one with it because Im on phone with Dobek and they say only one buell has it and its in research and development stage. Do you have any more info what bike and mods do you have.

The one they're referring to is the one here in Omaha, the guy that has it says it works great but I think this is the only Buell he's ever ridden and doesn't really have much of a guage on what they should feel like. The ECMs in our bikes tend to act funky when something is piggy backing.

Because the tech said that if your exhaust is to free flowing that reverberation would be a problem causing inaccurate readings and adjustments on the afr. Any extra info would help and maybe the dyno graph to if you have it. I have the old TFI and love it but if this one is better and will work on my 12r I want it.

I knew this would happen...

Are there different solutions? Yes. You just need more TIME, more KNOWLEDGE, or more MONEY.
If you want something SIMPLE, EASY, and INEXPENSIVE, this works very well. It helped my all stock '05 XB-12S not be so lean.
It ran faster, and cooler(!) after I installed, and tuned it. It took about an hour total.

@ Matteson Without you knowing what the problem actually was, or tuning it. Looks like you just removed yours easily. without having to program, or re-program anything. Win!
and if you mess it up real bad... just un-plug it and start over when you feel like it

@vitor17 It is a TFI like my ad says. They still sell it, even though they also sell different versions like yours. Glad you like it!

@lawdog You are right. Unless you want an easier, and easily returnable solution. With this one, you can tune, and even completely remove it on the road, without keeping a laptop glued to the air box cover. Not everyone enjoys RPM/TPS.. trim value... and compensating nearby cells for smooth transitions. Some of us just wanna ride
:D

@djs2k2 The part # is listed for "All fuel injected Buells" and it's been out for quite awhile.

It might not fit your 1190RS though[cool]

There are many threads (even on HERE) about the good and bad opinions people have.

Research! Or don't, I really don't care. I just need some beer money:D

@djs2k2 If you have the TFI and you like it, I'm pretty sure this is the same unit.
I'd love to sell it to you, but I don't think it will help ya.
:( for me

Hey! Can you piggyback a piggyback?? Let me know how that works! Haha...

Cooter I piggybacked my ebr ecm, but the gen 4 that vltr17 has is newer and apparently its better because it tunes its self plus has a AF gauge to monitor.

It is good to have options so I agree with u there. If you ever want help tuning I would be more then happy to help. You are right it is more work. But I think the end result is worth it. Even just locking out the o2s and doing a global increase or writing a race map in is quick and easy with no real tuning required. But it is good to have options......

Thanks Lawdog:) I appreciate the offer!

I've done a few LS swaps in cars and I'm familiar with how to program a custom fuel map, so I think I should pick it up easily.
I would just need to make a cable, download the software (I'm on a Mac), and learn the specifics of how the ECMspy program works. I'll get there soon enough[cool] Or I could just buy an EBR ECM...

Think of this TFI as high school, and ECMspy is college...
