So I picked up a 2001 Blast from a friend for my wife that had 3500 miles on it and had been sitting in his garage on a tender for a very long time. Its the bike we all used to get our M1 licenses here in CA because its go easy to ride but his wife would never ride it.

After bringing it home I figured I should go "test" it out to see how it realy rides and now I have a problem.

Seems the bike is perfect for a light weight street fighter or cafe build and she may not get the bike at all :D

I've already started looking at mods to make it more fun and she just asked that I dont make it to fast so she can still ride it and feel confident.

Now what? Input needed [up]

Buy another one that you can mod and she can still ride the other one. Works perfect in my head lol

My ex-wife (wife at the time) learned to ride just fine on my modified Blast. She ended up on a GSXR 600 after getting her license, but still asked to ride the Blast at times. I hated that GSXR, but she liked the look of it.

Point being, she learned on the Rat Blastard just fine.

When I upgraded from my Blast to my XB9 my girl friend took over the Blast, but I miss riding it so I am looking for another one to tinker around with. I figured after riding my XB for a while I would not look back, but the Blast is just too much fun.

Nice,

So I kinda ordered a set of clubman bars already.

Took all the plastic guards off that are not needed, pulled the back end off and cleaned up the tail light/lic plate bracket, moved the rear turn sigs forward and I'm looking at a few other things to pull off before I start bolting up new gear.

Thinking a velocity stack, exhaust and jets will be next. How much difference will those mods make to a fresh/stock blast eng?

Guess I'm lucky. My DH doesn't want to ride my Blast. I'd kill him if he started to mess w/how it looks. He has his own bike, it's not my fault it's not running.

It is a noticeable difference. Getting rid of that heavy exhaust, freeing the air flow is the way to go.

Unfortunately, that will just make you do more...bars, cams, ignition, 515 kit... its all good!

Here my baby.

Swap the xb swingarm (wheel, belt and front pulley) and the front wheel and brake setup and you'll have a very nice handling bike

From another thread, same muffler and intake as Daali's but ceramic coated with stocker in front for comparison.

I have a couple of pix that I need to upload of the rear end clean up but its all been done before.

Pulled the plastics off yesterday and used fusion primer and painted them satin black so no more sunfire yellow. If it works great if not I'll just oder up new plastics.

Whats your guys opinion on the velocity stack and outerwears filter compared to the type pictured above?

Which works better for the money?

Looking at the kit on ebay it looks pretty sweet for the price including the super boot and vent filter but a Vstack can be done pretty cheap.

Also,

What size jets with a Jardine ex + velocity or high intake?

As for the bike being a blast to ride. My buddy on his BMW 1100s was shocked that I was eating him up in the tight twisties this weekend. Scuffed my boot edges a few times. Bike is great if you keep it in the powerbad and its stock. Cant wait to wake it up a little and grab a few new ponies.

Personally, there is no better setup than outwears filter and velocity stack. Its the most free flowing setup their is, lightest, cheapest and no leg interference. \

However, some really like the look of the other setup.

Both need the super boot though, don't forget that or you will most certainly find yourself stranded.

I like the velocity stack myself as far as looks go.

So a velocity stack, outerwares filter and super boot. Check.

Still go with a 45 and 170 jetting?
