Firstly, heya all, newone in here.

So the case is, im planing to buy -04 XB12r, ~8k miles on the clock. Buy the pic's looks all nice, doesent shame much for a new one.

So, is there any "weak spots" that i should give a closer look? Or are these fairly troublefree machines?

EDIT:

Oh, the bike is equpped with "racekit" (??).

I used to ride Husaberg, so im used that the bike has some character, but i would apreciate if someone could give me out some pointers what goes to "character" box, and what can be seen as fault.

thanks :)

Race kit was purchased from dealership that includes a race muffler madras by hd, race ecm to help the bike run more efficiently by altering the fuel mapping and a k&n air filter. You will see some power increase by not anything gigantic.

Be aware that Buells have noisy engines and drive trains. However, significant knocking down deep in the case may be an issue. They also shake quite a bit at idle.

Check the normal stuff. Oil level, look for leaks, ensure the forks are straight, look at the brake pads and tires, etc, etc. Also look for missing or chunks missing from the drive belt. I hate dented headers, so look for that. All that stuff can get pricey.

When you check the oil, it needs to be at operating temp. and the bike needs to be on it's side stand. Pull the dip stick, wipe it off, screw it back in, then unscrew it to get the oil reading.

I always look for signs of oil on the fork tubes. It's a sign that the fork seals need to be replaced.

Read the threads on here about engine noises so you get an idea of what is normal and what isn't normal. Newcomers to Buells always seem to think they have a problem when in fact most of the time they don't.

One happy new buell owner signing in! :)

Tho, buying the buell did not go exacly as planned. We were supose to do the deal at 19.00... after 2hours and +30 unawnsered phonecalls later i started to browse the "bikes for sale website" Spotted -05 XB12R, ~9k driven and just around the corner.

Well, phoned the guy if he's willing to come and show the bike at these hours, and droved to his place.

And there it was... what can i say, i was thrilled. I fired it up... i was in love. Needed to do "formal" testdrive just that i dont look too exited (that would be bad for the haggle)...

So, the bike was like a newone, exept leaky right front shock. He had buyd new seals for it, and gaved them to the shop that stored and maintained it during the winter, but acording to the shop, the seals were wrong. Got 300e of the price due that. So i need to fix that next winter. (sliders are bit wet, but not that wet that i would dropt to ground)

But, damn im happy! :)

Tho, thisone only has sebring exhaust, and no racekit :/
