So I have been fishing around for info on why my bike is running so terrible. Race kit, open air box, ran like crap. Tuned it with ECMSpy and Megalog. Very inconsistent. I talked to the dealer and they said, try going back to the inner airbox setup. I did, and it fixed the problem. I left the K&N in there, but put the lid back on it. Talked to another guy at the Harley Rally here in Milwaukee tonight the races Buells and he said the 05s have a problem with creating a "vortex" with the open airbox. Has anyone ever heard of this? Experienced this?

Sounds like your air to fuel ration is off what do you mean by running bad, does it have a flat spot, no power, or is it a stutter, we need a better explanation to diagnose the problem.

did u try w/cover no lid,,,w/lid no cover? the cover creates a venturi (pressurized hole) thru the small inlet in front, it all starts there & in miliseconds ends up out the exhaust.

It would stutter off the line and was very inconsistant on the air/fuell on my logged runs. I had it with the open air box kit, with no inner cover. Now I have it without the kit, just the filter with the original inner cover on it locked in place on the lower piece. I am confused. Another symptom is even after the tps reset I had to run the idle really high to get it to work properly.

What was your AFV?

You may have had to much air and the ECM couldn't compensate.

The Race kit was designed for the regular filter mount, and the ecm programed accordingly

The afv was all over. After putting on the kit I was at 104. I logged an tuned and was just below 100, then all of the sudden after riding for awhile it started running like crap and I was at 89 afv. So confusing.

"All of the sudden it changed."

89 shows a rich mixture and the ECM is trying to lean it out.

Air temp sensor could have a problem, as it would be easy to bump when changing back to the stock filter setup and the bump may have had an effect.

Also check the Head temp sensor, it could keep you in cold mode which adds fuel.

Some other easly checked things
Spark plugs
Wires
Coil
Static timing
