Found a bike on CL for my son, relatively close by in the Houston area, contacted the seller and they state the wanted to go through eBay's Buyer Protection Program..... I get an email from eBay with a case # and instructions to to wire money (any other method will supposedly cost more) and on top of that the seller is in North Carolina and there is a shipper involved.....

Sounds a bit sketchy to me.....

Anyone have any experience with this?
I'm willing to forward what I have to make the picture a little clearer... also, if this is a scam I'd like to burn them down as they stated the bike belonged to thier son who was KIA in the rock box[mad]

It's a scam....

I've contacted ebay about something like this on craigslist. They said they do not do business outside of ebay.

That's messed up. You can contact ebay with the listing but as far as I could tell they didn't do anything about it.

DO NOT DO THAT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!

i found a bike on cl for a screaming deal!! lady was going through a divorce and was selling it super cheap. i e-mialed b/c there was no phone number. i offered to call and gave my phone number and "she" never called me back. i got the money order ready and went through ebay and what not. "ebay" never sent me any confirmation of the transaction witch i know they are really good for. things started sounding sketchy and i contacted the money gram company and ebay and they described the same ecact situation to me that i was going through. lucky for me i cancelled the money gram before the fuck could take my money. they never contacted me asking where the funds were after i cancelled. i have seen the same thing saying that the guy was asked to go back over seas and he had to sell his bike and it was being stored in a container some where. if you cant go see the bike or actually talk to some one on the phone i would not go for those on cl. type ebay scams into google and read some of them. i bet they will be the same exact situation your "seller" is telling you.

Yeah this is not cool. I have came across a number of adds like this on CL. Even saw two different bikes in two different cities but with the same post. Son KIA, would like to see the bike go to someone that will appreciate, blah blah blah Really low price etc. Run.

Yep, they try to make it look legit by sending a fake Ebay email with link. You can tell by looking at the browser address, it won't look correct like www.ebay.com/ blah blah blah...

Run far away :)

They even have scams generated through Ebay, they post a fake bike or car that they stole an image of off the internet. You win the bid, they tell you they only take wire transfers or what not from Western Union.

Thanks guys[up] Knew I could count on you guys for help:D Now back to finding a bike for my boy.....

This was the first email from them after expressing interest

RE: 2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600

Hi,

The bike has 2,666 miles, 600 cc. It's in perfect condition,no electric/engine problems,no accidents/liens/loans.No scratches, never been repainted.I have all documents,2 spare of keys, clean title. This bike belonged to our son. He died 2 months ago in the army. He past away in Afghanistan serving his country. Now this bike brings me bad memories. Hope you understand my pain in this moments. If you are really interested in buying the bike please do take care of it as we and my son did because it's a beautiful bike and it would be ashamed not to. The last price is $ 1,500.
Me and my husband travel a lot with our personal business and we want to make this deal through eBay's Buyer Protection Program. I just need your full name, full shipping address, home/cell # so I can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need. We will take care of the shipping so don't worry.

You can find some more pictures at the following address:

The last price is $ 1,500.

I am a craigslist veteran you could say and from all of my transactions I have learned that if it sounds too good to be true that it probably is. :D

Yeah thats def a scam. Using the cover of a dead soldier to do it. Very sad. As a OEF vet it makes me sick to see people using it as a scam.

They're kind of selling it hard in the ad aren't they. I mean laying it on kind of thick. They're volunteering a lot of unnecessary person details. It's often the quickest way to spot a bull$h*tter.

Glad you found out before you got burned.

Forward it to your local authorities. That scam shit pisses me off, the fact that these a-holes sit around cheating people, finding ways to screw people out of hard earned money, and on top of that, using KIA soldiers as a story line. Makes my blood boil!

F'ers!

total scam . and what a bunch of fucking douch bags with that story. for the year and the miles they could ask the first 5 people they saw walking down the street and someone would of bought it . the funny part is when they say take care of the beautiful as we and my so did because it would be ashamed not to . there parents should be ashamed they rasied such stupid fuckin cunts.[mad] But at least you didnt buy into it. good luck bike hunting. p.s get him a Buell

2ovals: it's A SCAM! also, having been an ebay dealer for the past 14 years, i would highly recommend that you go into ebay immediately and change your password if you haven't done so already. what the scammer is hoping you do is use their link to log into ebay, paypal, your own email, or something similar. if you do that they'll then have your password and acct. access. if you haven't clicked on any of their bullshit links, then don't worry about it.

90% of Craigslist is a scam. If do a transaction in person on a vehicle it usually ends up a bad deal.

Emailed a CL poster and got a similar response when i was looking for a bike. Sounded too good to be true and when investigating some further figured it was a scam.
Ebay Buyer Protection doesn't apply to vehicles and the Ebay Vehicle Protection applies only to certain listings on ebay ;)
