Ok, so long story short I just accepted a job three hours from where I live and my wife and I will be living separate for a few months.

I'm planning on riding my XBSs back and forth on the weekends and I'm wondering what I should check prior to making this long of a trip. I ridden her about an hour and a half so far, but just want to make sure all is well before going down the interstate.

The bike has 30k miles on it, and seems clean. The belt seems ok, tires are good... Oil is fresh, is there anything else I should check? Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to all the regular things you'd check on any bike before a trip, and the things you've already mentioned, you might want to look at the primary chain slack, steering head bearings, wheel bearings, charging system output, TPS, cooling fans, gaskets, and all critical fasteners including battery terminals.

These are all XB-specific weak spots; some can leave you stranded if not checked regularly.

Happy commuting!

take some extra fuses with you. make sure you have your tool kit as well and a few zip ties or bailing wire. otherwise go with what go cytocis said. i did the same thing you did, took a job 6 hours away. but i hauled my bikes up with me and rented a storeage shed.
