Gotta remember that it is an air cooled engine(no water jackets that absorb sound) and it has gear driven cams(not chain driven). Gear driven you hear much more noise.

Yea.... I am fully aware these suckas are clakety and even thumpin1203 complimented me once on how mine seemed quieter than most.

The reason I got concerned in the first place is that I know the sounds my bike makes pretty good and a new one had appeared. Amongst the symphony of clicks, ticks, clacks, rattles and whoomfs was a new chirp sound. Like I said... until its looses power, starts smoking, explodes, starts dropping parts on the road, or just plain dies.... its perfect!

I will just keep an eye on my oil level every ride.

So after reading this I decided to check my chain tension... WAY out of spec. I tightened it up, and it did reduce the chatter I'd normally hear.

Nice... Just make sure it was adjusted at the tightest point of the chain or you will be way too tight. Mine didnt need as much adjustment as I thought once I put tension on the chain. Ie: Rolling the rear wheel forward taking slack out.

I have just a bit over 18k on mine right now.Did a check at 14k when a new belt, oil change,Primary drive service and tires. It was in spec then.I checked it right after getting the bike at 8.4k.It is about time to recheck it.
