Pricing on 03 XB9R

Im looking to buy an 03' blue xb9r from a dealer with a blown tranny. Long story short, the ladies boyfriend fried the tranny, she didnt want to pay for new tranny/motor but still payed the bike off. This dealer doesn't know what they want to do with it, and pretty soon its gonna be up for grabs.

What would be a good price for the bike, its in pieces, im only looking to secure some parts for the future of my bike.

By pieces, I mean the engine/exhaust is droppped, not really worried about it not running, im friends with the service manager, he says the only thing wrong is the motor/tranny, it wasn't wrecked or anything.

Thanks for the input though, i feel the wheels and plastics alone would be worth that much, its in good shape, just collecting dust

It's still NOT running motorcycle. If they would part it out they would make more money. If they want to sell it as a whole I would pay $1200 at the very most if everything else is in top notch condition.

For $3000 you can buy a perfectly running one in PA right now, I can find runners with around 30 to 40K on them for $2500 and you would pay $1500 for one in pieces that you don't know if it runs or not? Are you a motorcycle mech? $75 to $90 an hour in labor if not plus a donor trans for $300 or more! Labor alone will be what, $800 or more to start?

If he's truly a friend the service manager won't take $1,500 from you for a non running bike. I bought my running 2005 xb with 7,000 miles, brand new pirelli tires, new battery, and a helmet for $2,500.

Thanks for the input everyone, just to clarify, i have a running 04 12R, this bike would simply be replacement parts. If i fixed up the 9R, my wife would make me sell it, only way to justify it, is to say its spare parts lol.
Who knows though, if i get it for the right price, i've always wanted a lightning, could finagle it into one.
