Im gona change the primary oil in my bike once it gets nice out again, just wondering what weight everyone uses, im a huge fan of amsoil products and would like to stay with that line but im just curious as to what everyone uses

Likewise, Amsoil has been great. I use 20W50 synthetic on my BMW K1200GT and Buell XBS. I also put 5W20 into my Honda CR-V. I specially like the discount you get if you become a member and order on their web-site. One other manuf. that comes close is Liqui-Moly.

20w-50 in both. i used lucas motorcycle syn. i just put it in so i cant tell you how it rides yet. i know for some reason i had to put 2 quarts in my prim and it says one but with one i couldnt even see it at the fill line. but 2 worked sooo im not sure what to tell you.

I use Amsoil 20W50 in both holes. Theres a noticeable difference I think. Seems to be a lot smoother when shifting.

I use Amsoil 20/50 in the Engine and amsoil gear oil last time.I used Redline Full Synthetic in the Bikes Tranny this last servicing.I switch every other time, on the Trannys fluid. The heat on an air cooled engine just needs the best you can give it.The fluids are the heart take care of the Heart.;)

Is there any reason not to use the HD product they sell? I'm getting ready to change mine, Believe it or not my 1125r is still under warrenty. I'm a big Mobil1 fan, so will probably go with it.

I've been really lucky with my dealer, in Round Rock, Texas. But not so with other dealers I've tried in Central Texas.

I run 20w50 royal purple oil in the engine. Can you run it in the trans as well? I need to change my trans oil when I change the engine oil. Thanks guys.

xlr8n_xb: yes it can. you can use royal purple in the trans/primary.
also as a suggestion because it's readily available...bel-ray #75 gear saver and Motul 75-80 are wonderful lubes in the trans/primary. they are specifically formulated for wet clutches and primary chains as well, shifting is improved, we've been using both of them in sportsters for ions. the Motul 75-80 is a reference #, it is not the same # one would find on a brand of gear lube.

lunaticfringe: where do you usually get the motul? or the bel-ray? and how much does it run? I see the bel-ray on ebay for $9 a liter but can't find the motul. thanks for all the help.

Bel-Ray gearsaver is a pretty common staple at most bike dealerships, especially dealerships that still deal in or work on 2-stroke anything. it was the gearlube of choice for 2-stroke bike trans cases be it on or off road. Motul is very trick stuff, about $12 per liter as opposed to about $9 per liter for Bel-Ray. we keep it in stock here but would imagine a dealership in your area could get it for you, or perhaps some on ebay? there is Motul tech-sese and Motul full synthese. don't ask me where they come up with these words but the full synthese is fully synthetic. we only use that particular lube for BMW transmissions.

you're quite welcome. and migs16, you put 2 quarts in the primary/trans? i would get 1 quart out of there before firing up the bike as double the fill quantity is instant recipe for disaster.

What about that royal purple gear oil??? Has anybody tried that? Its not 20w50 its like 75-80 roughly. I have heard that royal purple has a cleansing agent in it and is bad for primary's. Anybody else have any feedback on that issue?
