Probably the scariest experience I've had on a ride...

So, a buddy and I went for a ride last weekend. Started in Bismarck, went down Highway 1806 (west side of the Missouri River) down to Mobrige, SD and headed up Highway 83/1804. (east side of the river) Its about a 280 mile ride with some of be best "twisties" you will find in this part of the state. I use the term twisties very loosely. It's the kind of road where you could hold it at 100MPH fairly easily.

But anyway, Jesse was riding his brand new Softtail about 200 yards in front of me, he's at the bottom of a hill about to head up the next one, I'm at the crest of the hill about to head down. We're cruising about 75, 80MPH. I look at the top of the next hill and there is about 5 deer walking their way across the road. I just about **** my pants, cause there is no way in hell he was going to see them in time. Thank f-ing god that they were cleared out of the road by the time he got there. When I came up behind him he had slowed to about 10MPH, he was white as a ghost.

wow... I'm glad it worked out the way it did... I've had a few scares myself and can definitely relate.

I can relate as well. Had my most recent pucker moment this past Tues going down an unfamiliar road with pea gravel in the middle of the curve hit the gravel front started washing out I stood her up and went into the grass and just missed going into a cornfield. Teach me for going balls out on a road I don't know.

gotta watch them ohio backroads srtmvt. wait until the corn is down and all the deer come out to play.

Got deer up here in the gold country also, been quite a few bike wrecks with them around here. Always a concern with me, as I ride alone most of the time. I installed one of those deer whistles right under the headlights.
A few weeks back a big doe was right next to the road, and raised its head as I came by. Not sure if it was the whistle or my Drummer exhaust. The guy at Auto Zone said that the Highway Patrol got them for their bikes, but got to be going 40mph for them to work. Anyone got input about this.

I watch the CHP web site like a hawk for traffic incidents. The #1 reported incident at night around here are deer vs car accidents. That is why I will avoid riding at night at all costs. I need HIDs [sad]

Interesting different parts of the good old USA has different situations for riders.Over here thank God no deer but visitors or tourists looking every way but on the road seems to be the big hazard.Cars are harder than deer's but at 55 or so results are the same...( Hawaii )[sad]
