Hey guys, just wanted to vent a little bit. Some of you have seen my build thread on this forum, it's viewable HERE
Basically I bought a basketcase bike for 1k$, the PO owner was a liar and a moron. IMHO it was still well worth the 1k$ i paid, but close to 2k miles later I'm still finding shit this guy fucked up.. and i've basically torn the bike down to just parts.
As you can see in that thread i had to replace the forks, the front wheel bearing was so chewed up that it started eating the wheel, the rear brake caliper had a bent bolt (one of the bolts where the caliper slides on) and it was trying to seize, the motor was blown the fuck up, and now just recently i've discovered why my front brakes shudder when i get on the hard.
I assumed I needed a front rotor, ended up purchasing one and getting ripped off (see: http://www.buellxb.com/Buells-for-Sale/Buell-Parts-for-Sale/NIB-Front-6mm-brake-rotor )
Since then I've talked to Squidbuelle who has given me some good info on what to check for in my brake system and even offered free parts after seeing my mis-fortune. I've listened to him here and pulled my brake apart (finally) yesterday. Here's what I found (pics to follow):
Pulled apart the rotor finally ( havnt taken the rotor off the bike yet until now, I just assumed it was warped and I needed a new one - it's funny because if you view my build thread you can see I've had this bike down to just parts before i built it back up with the new motor).
First I checked my pads to see their condition. The were worn evenly all the way though, though you cant see in the pic.
Above you can see my hardware. Id like to state first that each mounting point should contain the following: 1x Torx bolt, 1x small spacer, 1x big spacer, 1x spring. This is ALL the hardware that came off the bike. From left to right this is what the hardware was missing, 1 - had everything, 2 - missing small spacer, 3 - missing BOTH spacers, 4 - missing the BIG spacer, 5- had everything 6 had everything.
So now I've got to get some hardware and try my rotor again to see if the rotor is now warped BECAUSE of the lack of spacers. I have a bad feeling that due to the lack of spacers and the way this thing was torqued on it may have actually warped the rotor itself due to heat cycles and no spacers and too much toruqe. (WAY over the OEM torque specs, probably just cranked it on as hard as he could).
Bleh, anyways my PO was a huge douche - I'm happy my buell is in my hands now being treated correctly. I cannot believe i almost put 2k miles on this thing with the brake missing hardware like that. Glad I'm alright and didnt get tossed off the bike or something.
PO's issues: blown motor at 16k miles (probably never changed the oil or something). Seized rear brake when i bought the bike, front wheel bearing SO destroyed it started eating the hub of the wheel itself, scraped frame and no frame pucks (my new frame pucks covered that ouchie up so no biggie, and since i NEVER plan on selling the bike i dont mind it or the salvage title.) brake lever snapped where the mounting hardware went(not safe to ride like that IMHO), forks completely destroyed(see build thread). I'm sure theres more, but my point is don't ever trust a previous owner.
