Purpose of catch can?

The catch can is required?

What is the purpose of that ?

In that thread I am pretty sure there is all the info that you need...

It is a water/oily mix, most put a catch can so it doesnt drip, some people just have the filter and then down to a bolt plugging the end of the hose, and there are some that run it with no filter and no catch can or bolt plugging it allowing it to drip on the ground.

I promise if you read that whole thread, not just the pics there is plenty of info.

Not "required" but without it the oil drops will fall onto the pavement. I run mine this way, IMO it's better. Some people have told me it's bad for the environment....really? so a few drops falling on asphalt(ironically made from crude oil) is going to hurt the environment?

Some also say it will get on the rear tire and loose control. Again....a few drops aren't going to cause that.

It collects the condensation. That being said, mine is simply around 8" of tubing below the breather with a petcock at the end of it. Every once in a while I open the petcock and let the condensation out.

I have a catch can on mine and after the first ride, it accumulated some 'stuff'. But after that initial ride, I haven't had any significant accumulation that required me to empty it.

There are plenty of pics on here for those who's bike seem to generate quite a bit of slime!

No catch can here either. I just routed the hose to a filter then ran another section of hose down in between the lower faring and the engine and placed a brass plug in it. Still haven't seen anything in it though.[cool]

I use mine to lube my chain on the r. On the scg it just spits out on the swing arm nobody sees it. I'm thinken its about as environmentally safe as any factory chain driven bike that oils the chain centrifugally from the front sprocket shaft. Buells aren't supposed to b environmentally friendly. Tell those hippy tree huggers to go ride a bicycle!

always wondered why a "can" would come into play if your valve seals, guides, and rings are in good shape?

It can dribble oil during high-rev situations, and most tracks won't let you onto the track without a proper catch can.

^^Oh, I hear ya--on my Uly, I run the line straight out to the rear passenger peg with no filter or can. On my XB12S, I ran a catch can and filter, but mostly 'cause l didn't know how much would come out. I get -zero- dribble on my Uly...
