Ok I am not new to the forum, Ive been stalking around incognito(unregistered) and i am out to get my very own Firebolt in the coming months, i had a quick question that i did not happen to see anywhere. Im planning on riding on the stock equipment until my first oil change or until i have enough dough to go out and buy all the parts at once, including intake, exhaust and i am ready to poke holes into what i think is an inner airbox?? but i was wondering if i could just get the stock ECM remapped by Harley/Buell to get them all running correctly or do i have to go with the racing ECM, im sure that the stock buell has enough power to putt putt me around town, but all i really want is that lumpy 'potato potato' harley cam sound. i was planning on getting a Soft tail, but after settling with a Shadow i find cruiser riding rather how do i say, mindless and boring, but that's just me. i have floorboards and i have a urge, no no a need, to attempt to carve and after many scrapes and a few near wipe outs(and soiled shorts), i figure out that 'hmm hey maybe i can get something that has a satisfying Lump Lump Rumble GRR WOOF WOOF engine, but with some carvabillity'

Ok now on the the introduction,

My name is Andrew I live in Sunny Southern California
I find myself to be not only a Buell/Harley fanatic, but rather a two wheel fanatic,
I am quite Tall 6'6 (yes i will look rather goofy on my firebolt)
I like Dogs, Beer and Romantic Walks/Rides on the beach.
I am rather quirky and weird, according to my friends im punny(pun intended)

I would like to close my Introduction with a joke reminiscent of the Chuck Norris craze of 2006,

What is the Last thing that goes through Chuck Norris' victims minds before they died?

His Shoe.

lol glad you finally came outa the closet my snooping friend

in my opinion just changing the ecm will not give you your grumble grumble sound your wanting . . . its all comes from the pipe you throw on it there are a variety of pipes you can throw on from cheap to expensive . . . drummer, jardine, special ops, stock race pipe, and im sure others that i cant think off the top of my head. im glad you didnt go with the "norm" bike like everyone else

good luck finding your bike post up pics when you do

If you plan on getting a new firebolt, it will not be remapable for a few months. 03-07's ECMs were remapable, both stock ECM and Race ECM.

Firebolts are short bikes, so you may want a taller seat, like the aftermarket buell seat. You can also put Lightning pegs on the bolt which would lower them 1"

Welcome to the Buell family. :D

Yea i was planning on doing the inch drop on the pegs since its only 25 bucks, i was thinking the D&D exhaust, with the K&N Cleaner, and if necessary the Race ECM. Hmm i was planning on a brand new bolt.. hmm bummer oh well more bonding time with the stock bolt, Can some one clarify what the hole drilling intake, are you actually drilling holes into your bike(outside) or is it inside some where you wont see it?

Thanks Dave I indeed feel welcomed

welcome!

the newer airbox already has holes in the inner cover.

if you're about to open it, i would suggest a complete delete kit. ;)

Hey Lefox, would a delete kit be ok without a remap? If it is, what about a delete kit with a K&N?

? If it is, what about a delete kit with a K&N?

If you get a race ECM you should be ok for a while (keep in mind that you can re-map this later for the best results) Or just put a pipe on for the sound you want and nothing else until you re-map your stock ECM. If you wait on the open box and filter it will save you a little cash (not having to buy a race ECM)

it is advisable to review the amount of fuel you let in your engine when changing the amount of air getting in.

so yes, any adjustments to the airflow should be followed by adjustments to the fuel mapping.

Yes, I too am planning on acquiring a Firebolt as Its time for a Buell.
I have sat on both and find the Lightning fits me better so I plan on changing the bars and pegs to match. Does this make any sense or should I just get the XB12S?
The appearance means something to me as its what I see when i come & go from the house every day and lets face it the XB12R looks way betta.
If your comments are something like Lunatic or Wacko your welcome to post them here.

You won't be the first to change out the bars and pegs on a firebolt so go with what you'll be comfortable with. If you like the way a firebolt looks better than a Lighting (which is insanity you lunatic wacko :p) then go for it. Get what will make you the happiest.

We'll I was hell bent on the 1125cr Since they came out with it, but then i heard it. Its too, too?, Too Rotax for me, to Duc/Aprilia-ish for me. but indeed i will swap the pegs and seat to make me fit better, but still look goofy as heck on the firebolt, but i just don't want a 'Busa..

Got a good friend who put the D&D on his 1125R. Never heard anything that mean in my life. It's like a freakin' Buell on massive doses of Steroids! I swear that thing's growing boobies and it's gettin' pimples!!!

Don't rule out the CR just b/c of the stock sound. That would be a mistake. And from what I hear, the stock ecm on the '09 1125's is light years ahead of the '08's.

Robtk! a.k.a. "Special K"

"It's a friggin' Buell, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears,
the seat should be hard and riding it
should make you $hit your pants every now and then.
It's a fricking motorcycle, suck it up!"
