just picked up a Buell xb12r firebolt, 06. Love the bike. Loads of personality. Came with a Jardine muffler. I find it a bit to loud, specially when coming home late at night. The other day I saw a firebolt on the street with what I am guessing was the stock muffler (or was it?) and it had a noise level about the same as most stock bikes.

Any suggestions for a muffler that is quieter? Should I look for the stock pipe or is there something else?

thanks,

jason

ps damn spellchecker keeps trying to change firebolt to fireboat.. lol.

if you want to quite down the noise on the jardine just order the qmi insert online its like 30 bucks and lowers the noise.i work nights too and it helped me alot.

I put the insert in mine. Made a big difference. My ears weren't ringing anymore.

The factory race can is pretty quiet. Sounds like a harley at idle, a ducati at a steady low rpm and a flattracker at high rpm. I work nights too so when i go by the asshole neighbors they get the flattracker version. It looks pretty nice too.

Yeah I am getting old! Thanks for the info folks. Will look into that insert as well as see about the stock muffler.

I wonder if the engine needs retuning for the insert? For the muffler for sure.

Happy riding this weekend.

jason

Check out American Sports Bike's buell exhaust shoot out. They have audio clips and sound level ratings on most available exhausts.
