Hello. newbie here. just bought 03 buell xb9s a week ago. have it already tore down for paint. been snooping around alot on this site for about 2 weeks now. noticed that on some threads they say the race ecm soemtimes comes stock without saying "Race Use Only" on it... well i bought my bike with the "Buell Race Muffler" but the air filter does not appear to be a high flow or K&N filter and my ECM doesn't have "race use only" on it... bike runs fine from what i can tell no troubles with 150 miles on it since i've owned it.... my question is... do i have the race kit? i did get the # off my ECM and it reads 32801 02YA 04188.... any help greatly appreciated...

If no one posts up as to whether that is a Race ECM or not, you can call the closest dealer to you and run it by them. They should have a Buell rep. in the Service Dept. that can help you out.

thanks LeFox... was hoping you'd say otherwise... another question for ya... just got my K&N filter in today and the bike already had the "race muffler"... was think'n about buying the open air box kit and the race ecm... is it worth it or should i just sticks with what i got!!!??? thanks for any help brotha man

I have an 03 xb9 with a race ecm, and muffler, and I just fitted a K&N a couple of weeks back. There's definitely a crisper response and with the K&N, and the induction roar is great. I don't think there's a need for an open air box kit, but your call...

look around in your neighborhood.
it's possible that a remap of your current ecm will be cheaper. if it isn't, a race ecm with a buell race pipe is the way to go.

place a k&n and open up the airbox, you'll get difference in response, performance and sound.

found this on ebay... legit!? the part number on the box is different than the part number on the ECM itself... help me out here cuz i put on a bid on it all excited i found one and now that i'm reading it more closely i think i got screwed.....

Just use ECM Spy and get a cable. You can turn your stock ecm into a race ecm by uploading the race map. I have a cable if you don't already have one. The program is free. I also have the race maps for most bikes.

Wow, for that price you could get a Custom ECM mapped specifically to your mods by Xoptiinside.com. It'd be better than a Race ECM then. Just my $.02

I can get you a ecm spy cable and race map for $50 shipped. Much cheaper than the race ecm and same results.

edipis.... do u have alot of experience with this ecm spy... i've read almost everything about it yet it scares me. would i just download the map from you?

Millerbuell, yes it's pretty easy as long as you are computer literate. Custom maps from xopti are $100. Custom maps from American sport bike are $200. I've turned my stock ecm to a race ecm and eventually uploaded a custom map with the best results.

Just make sure you back up your existing EEPROM before making any changes. That way you can always go back to the original settings if anything goes wrong.

if i were to give u a list of the mods i have and plan on doing could u get me a custom map!? or would i be good with just a race ecm? as of now i have the race muffler and k&n filter... want to do the open air box mod and then new ecm/map... let me know. appreciate all the help too.

Since you have the race muffler (assuming it's the buell race muffler) I would recommend trying the race ecm map first. You can keep your stock ecm in place and we can convert it to a race ecm with ecm spy. That will be the cheapest route. Just need a cable. The program is free! After that you can decide if you want to pay for a custom map which can be burned to your existing ecm also.

What year and model is your bike?
