yeah..i really don't care. i would just spell everything out in the rules and i think everyone would be cool with it.

i'll prob do another raffle next week for the ram air box at 5 a ticket, with people able to buy as many tickets as they want.

i'd really like to do this for some big ticket items that i would have a hard time buying (bike stand, airbox, wheels, sharknose tail, etc etc)...eventually it'd be cool to raffle a bike or something.

303 maybe you should start a raffle rules, updates, suggestions, and guest host volunteer thread.

send the money as a gift? It doesn't take a fee if you do that does it?

nope...It's free![up] I suggested that in the boot raffle thread. We definitely should take advantage of that (at least for the raffle portion of it. I've been getting hit w/ the 3% (4% for international) with every slider order...[sad] Cost of doing business I guess...

i'm not sure?? paypal needs to make $$ somehow, so i'm not sure what their rules are???

on the boots, we were like $3 and change short...i just covered it ( i knew there would be kinks on the first few)

50 is right its free to send a gift. they dont make money off that one prolly because they don't have to worry about buyer or seller protection on gifts.

yea, I sell on ebay and that use to be my sole income. between ebay and paypal, damn they love their fees. PayPal makes their money plus some, trust me. I mean eBay is PayPal, eBay bought PayPal and makes everyone use PayPal for payments.

i was going to do the gift option but i ran into a couple problems. One, there was no message box to attach the item description as requested. Two, when i clicked gift it said it would charge me the fee so $5.45 would have been charged to my card and 5 dollars would have been sent, or if i said i do not want to pay the fee it would still only send $4.55 as a gift.

let's just have the winner pay the shortage from now on...it's 3% of the total cost...since shipping will be included in raffle prices, all the winner pays is a 3% "handling fee"

When you select the gift option and continue, at the botton it gives a subject and message section at the bottom

well something isnt right and paypal is taking a fee from MY end becuase right now there is 13 people who send $5. instead of $65, i have:

PayPal balance: $61.31 USD

So I'll cover the $3.69 on this raffle..but it looks like we ned to start selling an extra ticket or having the winner pay the shortage.

alternatively you just added 3% to the cost of the part? this way the raffle would cover everything.

edit: or whatever the actual percentage is. looks like about 6 percent got taken from the total.

yeah..paypal always takes their slice. not sure why so much was taken...usually 3% is taken from my acct. when i withdrawl it or buy something..i think?

i'll try and track it better...may just have to run a few more and see what the cost is and get it figured out.

I did the gift option for the boots...This is a copy from my account:

Amount sent:
-$5.00 USD
Fee amount:
$0.00 USD
Net amount:
-$5.00 USD

right..but from the recipients end, i believe it's different how people pay..

Free when the money comes from PayPal balance or bank account.

2.9% + $0.30 USD
when the money comes from a debit or credit card or PayPal Credit

The standard rate for receiving payments for goods and services is 2.9%.

If you receive more than $3,000.00 USD per month, you're eligible to apply for PayPal's Merchant Rate - which lowers your fees as your sales volume increases. Your fees can be as low as 1.9%, based on your previous month's sales volume.

Purchase payments received (monthly) Fee per transaction
$0.00 USD - $3,000.00 USD 2.9% + $0.30 USD
$3,000.01 USD - $10,000.00 USD 2.5% + $0.30 USD
$10,000.01 USD - $100,000.00 USD 2.2% + $0.30 USD
> $100,000.00 USD 1.9% + $0.30 USD

True...That's the fee when it comes in as a (domestic) "purchase." Out of curiosity, have a look at my payment to you for the boots to see how much you got...

It's free when sent as a "gift", not a "purchase."

At any rate, you shouldn't be penalized at all considering your hosting this whole thing. I'd be cool with you rounding up to the next $5 increment (or whatever covers the fees) and pocketing whatever change is left. Sounds fair to me...

I agree. just include one more entry in the raffle to help cover the cost of the paypal fees. i'm cool with that. if the "gift" money sending option still requires the person holding the raffle to pay a fee.
