Rode with a guy with no muffler once. It wasn't that loud, not as loud as I had expected. And sounded crappy

Disconnect the cable that is attached from the actuator to the muffler. Leave the other wire plugged in until you disable it or you will have a CEL.

May still get a light even with it still hooked to one end. I did, with no tension in the cable ecm thought it was stuck open. Dealer put a zip tie on it, worked for awhile but I eventually just disabled it.
Since you're getting a Hawk, get the K&N air filter and also an ECM programmed to match. The ECM can be programmed to not display the exhaust cable CEL.

It will not throw a cell with the race ecm.( for the exhaust ).
