In most states replacing your OEM rear fender with a FE, like Jardine's, is "illegal." And like 99% of all sportbike riders, my Jardine FE went on within the first month of ownership, and I haven't had one speck of trouble until last fall: got pulled over for it and got a "fix-it ticket" (in MD). So I trimmed up a plexiglass sheet and bolted it to the bottom of the license plate so it extends as far down as the stocker did. It passed ... then I took it right off that same day because it was ugly as sin and bounced all around under speed.

The problem: I sold my stock fender and reflectors a month after I put on my Jardine. I got pulled over again last week for the same reason by the same biker statie ... the thing is, each time, he asks me if it's stock, and I stupidly say "no." I think if I put the side and rear reflectors back on with a nice plate frame I'd be okay. I refuse to put the stocker back on: I've already trimmed under the brake light for plate illumination and I just think it's butt ugly.

Do you think this would keep them off my back? And on a related note: does anyone have the three stock reflectors that attached to the stock fender??

Thanks for the help and thoughts.

Next time just say yes it's stock I bought it this way from the dealer. You might give the reflectors a shot, what's the worst it could do save you some money and harassment!

can you take a picture and show us what you're working with. I'm near OC, md myself.

This is what I have now, flaya. And I didn't think there were any Buellers down in OC! I lived there for two years ... 28th (Robin) and 120th St., Bayside. Worked at Bayside Jetdrive / Action Watersports on 52nd.

you really need to look up your state laws regarding Motocycles and legal motorcycle REQUIRED Equipment, in your states online law libary.(see your states website in the links on your legistaive branch page or governors website)
then keep a copy of it with you to show them, if your modifation is legal.
your states Statutes

it can help you so you can figure out a way to get your motorcycle street legal. most states do require reflectors of some kind on front & rear at specific height. and any rear fender requirements.

Well I live 20 minutes from OC but no one knows where Snow Hill is. Did he say what the issue with the tag is? I'm almost positive, it doesn't have to be stock, just horizontal, visible and so many inches from the ground. I'll look for the code. I'm curious now.

Christ, they are messing with you because of that? Someone get that guy a doughnut! There shouldn't be any problem with that set up. Is your state off their rocker with their rules or something?

Even with cars, the restrictions are ridiculous here. But that cop must not have anything better to do.

I would gladly throw you some PayPal goodness or whathaveyou for the set (rear + L/R sides)
No need in that. If I got them, they are yours. I believe I have two sets. PM me your address and I will get them out in the A.M.

I was pulled over for this set up:

3029_20100430155325_L.jpg

got a $120 ticket (improperly displayed license plate) or go to court option.

Went to court and didn't have to pay anything - case dismissed, charge dropped. Here's the story.

At that time I was pretty sure it's illegal but after some research I found out that IL law doesn't say anything about the tag being placed vertically is legal or not. Or I can't find the info. It says it needs to be lit up and visible (I forgot from how far).
