so, I rotated my motor to get to a broken exhaust stud. Go to take a the nut off the other stud to get the header off. The MF'r broke, so now I have two broken studs. One is WAY into the head and the other broke off right at the lip of the head.

Since the frame blocked my angle to drill, I had to pull the head off.

Once the head was off and I assessed the damage, I felt more comfortable bringing the head to Harley to have them pull them.

Chandler Harley called me today and told me they couldn't get it, and told me to bring it to a machine shop to have them drilled out.
It's going to be $100 a bolt to remove.

Should I do it, or should I look to buy a used head and just replace it?

Whoa 100 a bolt is crazy... where are you located? Maybe I'm just use to rural Alabama where everyother house has a machine shop in the back yard but seems to me it should be cheaper

I'm in Arizona.

I'm having trouble finding someone to do it, and when I found this guy he was all "Yea guy, I can do it, but it'll be about $100 a head"

I said "Um, My name isn't guy, and wow, pricey"

Midnight,
find someone locally that can use EDM(Electrical Discharge Machining) to remove the broken studs.
The guy I was thinking about, has closed, but their should be someone in your area that can do it.
Later

I had a broken stud in my front cylinder head and what we did was weld a nut to the end of it and torque it out

my stud only had about 1/4" left, not even enough to get a nut completely back onto it (the student was basically rounded out with rust at this point anyway, but yea) and it went really easily

the guy who did it for me charged me $20 ad I went happily on my way

Can someone care to explain why you guys call it "rotating your motor" to take out your engine, in just dont get the terminology of it

Thanks

Chandler Harley called me today, they couldn't get the studs out, so off to a machine shop. Anyone have a recommendation?

Jet6 - You have to rotate the motor forward (undo all sensors, fuel line, ignition) then loosen the rear motor isolator and remove the front mount and the motor tips out of the frame giving you access to the rear head.

I JUST WANT TO RIDE!!!!
