Rear shock question

I have a 2006 XB12SS, can I install a new shock from the 2008-10 XB12STT? I know they are different part numbers, is there a difference besides the 2008+ being slightly longer? Would it work?

If i recall correctly the early year SS didnt sit quite as high as the later years. It was 08 or 09 the SS switched to using the same suspension as the STT and sat higher because of it.

I believe the stt shock is about 1/4" taller.
