Hi there.... here is my issue

I am 5'10'' and the previous owner was about 5'5'' so he wanted to lower the bike... He changed the original blue spring of the rear suspension for a yellow one.

He said it lowered the bike about 1 inch... he did not lower the front of the bike because he said it was not worth it... anyways here is my question..

Has anyone ever changed that spring and do you need any kind of special tools to remove the parts that holds the spring in place?
[confused]

thanks

People say don't do it but I say slip the forks, it is free and if you are careful you shouldn't have to worry about anything.

I have almost 1000 miles on my drop and the forks have not moved or lossened one bit.

Thanks, but i am not looking to drop the front as well.
I want to put back the original spring on the rear suspension.

In that case trade someone on the forum there are plenty of people willing to trade a lower Scg shock setup for a stock R/S setup.

As far as removal you will need some basis tools and a jack, nothing special.

Trading is an option. I did not think of that. If i find out how to remove that spring and swicth it then i'll have an Scg spring for sale;)

Dont remove the spring, the shock is also different, you need the entire setup to be swapped.

so right now, i have an S setup with and Scg spring. The previous owner only changed the outer spring. I guess this is why he did not see much of a difference when he attempted to lower his lightning.

I m still tempted to revert back to the stock spring to make it a full S rear suspension. I was just wondering how to do it?[confused]

In that case you need a spring compression tool which autozone will rent for free, but as far as the spring you will prbably be better off to buy a new spring. You could always try to trade just the sprng but most guys on here will want the shock too since it is designed for that spring.

I would check the price of the spring through chicagoharley.com, they offer 20% off all their online parts you just have get the part number from a local dealer then search the part numer on the web site. It might just be easier and not cost much more to do it that way.

i have the spring already, he gave it to me when i bought the bike. I was not planning on changing it, but i tried one buell that still had the original rear suspension and i liked it a lot.
I want to jack the back seat as much as i can... so this was the first step.:)

If i can't sell the spring, it will be a cool looking bookend:D
