All,
Has anyone posted a rear tire removal thread?
I ask because I changed my tire this weekend and it just way to easy IMO. Just want to make sure I did everything right.
I was out today and on my way home I cranked it a little on the way home, I was doing 80+ and would twist it back full open from 80+ I can hear a new sound on the bike sounds like the Belt is hitting that metal belt guard.
Or it’s something else, Did not sound good. I did it all the way home and could not pin point it.
I know this weekend I did the Air breather mod, Headlight, and Rear tire install. The bad thing the Air breather popped off sometime today on the road Due to I placed it to close to the swing arm and Under seat so when I hit X amount of bumps it popped off. Going out now to re-route the breather.

Is it still making the noise now that the filter fell off? Maybe the filter was pressing against the tire and that was causing a noise when you would accelerate.

Gottogo,
When I get home I'll check the Torque since I did go on a long ride after the change.
Upthemaiden,
Yes it was making the noise after it fell off, I think the new sucking noise is from the absent filter. I'm going to try it out again after I Re-route the lines again.
Thanks for the input! Anything helps.

Yah they get loud when u change filters or. Airbox mod I would also start reading up on ecmspy tuning also. Especially if you notice a low end burn or alot of popping

All,
What should the Rear wheel torque be set at? I think thats my problem its gotten louder and now the bike dont sound right.
I think the HD dealer sold me the wrong Trans oil.... I talked to a guy today and he handed me some Redline.
But damn I got home and everything was boiling inside!
Oil was boiling, trans was boiling. WTF.. I took out the dipstick and smoke came out.
Thanks

All,
Not that I do much now but what do you all think, I did not know oil could boil like that or the trans.
I'm going to change it all out and re torque the rear wheel.
I'll be looking for metal chunks or shavings when I do this so far trans have slivers that just grind away on my fingers. Will look for the same in the oil.
Anything else you think I should do? And please tell me someone out there has made a bike this hot before lmao? I know it sounds stupid but I have never heard of it getting that hot my friend Mechanic just sighed when I told him and he told me he will come look at it.

Any ideas feel free to beat me up, I put about 400-700 miles on it with all this drama imo.

what oil did you put in it?
should be 20w50
the smoke maybe just pressure from the vent being pinched somewhere.
Trans should be 20-50 or the hd trans stuff sport trans or something.
If you have a bad wheel bearing it will add a lot more load to the bike and belt

RT Performance,
Thank you, yes I use 20w50 HD oil, and the trans was the same I think first time changing that at 9.3k, I threw that bottle away when I changed it out. The oil is very black for under 700 miles. No large amounts of shavings on the plug magnets. Melted the rubber grommets on the plugs though.
Thanks again all!

well the o-ring on the plug should get mashed it is a crush fit.
I doubt the oil is boiling.
I run synthetic in both my bikes it will last longer without breakdown Mobile 1 red line ams oil
All good oils.
If you got smoke or a his when you took the oil cap off you got the breather pinched or blocked.
Air cooled v twins have blow by so it is critical they are vented.

get the rear up on a stand or hang the bike rotate the tire see if maybe the caliper (rear brake is binding).
I broke my caliper mount taking the rear off my xb

All,
Had my friend come over Looked it over real well, rode if for like Hr hard. When he came back the fan never kicked in. He called me and asked does it do that. I told him no, the day it got real hot the fan did kick in for average time then it shut down like normal. I can't seem to get the fan to come on myself. Going on a ride here and well find out going to be at lease 1.2 hours nostop. When I get to the Dealer it should kick in I would think.
Thanks again for the insight!

does it sound like a metal tinging only when your on wide open throttle? mine makes that noise but im not sure what it is... its only when the motor is quite warm too on warm days...

Black xb12r,
Yes I just got back from the HD dealer and its quite warm. I was beaming it (laser thermometer) on the way back Pipes, Engine, both sides, swing arm.
Temp was average 170's. Stopped the bike at home 256-292 some places and the FAN kicked on!! woot !
So with you saying that you hear the noise when it’s hot makes me think maybe its normal. To me it sounds louder that it should be, it sounds like the rocker arms /shrug or whatever the bike has in there.
I ordered my maintenance manual so ill be reading up on it all soon enough.
Thanks again
