Is there really that many different mapps like there is mufflers or can you change muffler without having to redo mapp. I have a D&D and are considering something different.

The general rule is that if you have a pipe only your OK with a stock map, if you have a pipe and K&N air filter then your stock map will be lean.

So how do mapps work in compareson to the Exhaust. I mean Ive seen some pipe mods and pretty much they are not much different than just putting a few bends on a straight pipe. So is it that the mapp makes the bike performance instead of the muffler, I understand what you said about the filter and ecm but If I just change to a micron will I have to change my mapp or is the mapp diff. of that for a D&D and a micron and what makes a micron actually better. [confused]

IMO, depending on the exhaust, do a tps reset, give the exhaust/ecm a learn in ride and have at it. Your bike will be fine...BUT if you increase airflow by switching exhausts and air filters, your bike will not be running optimally. Doing both does not necessarily make your bike run lean either. You should remap to get the best performance out of your bike. If you are just going to do the exhaust, and can be happy with the way it turns out, more power to you. It's not going to hurt anything. but like I said, for optimal engine life and performance, the bike should be remapped. In my opinion anyway

I guess I was misunderstood .I have a remapp and the D&D with the air box mods But Im just wondering what make the micron better if the bike has the same mapp or does a micron need a diff mapp. I here the micron is the best pipe out there but why. Im just looking to put the best stuff out there on my bike cause im planning to keep it long enough for my boy to jump on it wich will be another five years then its his.
So im just gona do all the work now to get the best out of it so he wont have to do it later.

I've recently modified my airbox, installed a K&N air filter and had my pipe worked on by Hawk Performance. After a TPS reset and test ride my header pipes were turning blue. I did some data logging and my afv was 112%! I made a custom map through MegaLogViewer which richened the values basically across the board. My bike now has the crisp response that I've been looking for but plan on doing at least 2 more logs to test this new map.
