Hey all! I would like to help a friend remove the rear wheel from his 07 XB12S - any tips and tricks for doing so? We don't have a stand (I have some jack stands and a jack).

Tips for reinstalling would also be appreciated.

Anybody have a (free) 2007 XB12S manual in PDF format that you can post or e-mail to me?

Thanks!

I took my rear wheel off the other day for a new tire using jackstands. I have the manual downloaded at home, but here is about how it goes...

1)Remove brake caliper via 2)allen bolts going through the swing arm.
2)Loosen axle pinch bolt located on bottom of swing arm, driven sprocket side.
3)Loosen axle, after several turns, pressure/contact is released from bearings, wheel can be pushed forward slightly, and belt slides off.
4)Continue to remove axle, pull out and you're done.

Assembly is backwards, but when tightening the axel, torque to 50 or 55ft-lbs (cant quite remember the spec exactly), back off a few turns, then re-torque to 50 or 55 ft-lbs per the manual.

k here is how I did it the first time:

I hung my bike from the garage door rafters at my house. I had no jacks so I used two straps tied to the fork tree, two tied the passenger pegs. Held pretty well. Funny to look at though. :)

I don't have the tool kit so i had to improvise: I used me allen wrench to undo the locking nut under the swing arm and I used a long 13/16 long nut to shove in the axel. Then I used a 13/16 socket to turn the nut. Reallly easy if you have the tool kie. WISH I HAD ONE [sad]

Thaloc,

The rear axle is lefty-loose, righty-tight (just like normal bolt threads). The front axle on the other hand is opposite. They do that to make sure the direction to loosen the wheel is not the same as the normal wheel rotation.

Just put my rear tire back on, it is lefty loose, righty-tighty. As for the torque on the axle, 25ft-lbs, back off 2 turns, torque to 52 ft-lbs. The axle pinch bolt is torqued to 45 ft-lbs.
