Anyone know if there´s a video to show how to replace the drive belt on my XB12s?

I have read some of the instructions, but haven't figured out if I need to take of my rear tire, or what the "hidden box" is...

im waiting for a front brake caliper rebuild video. i know how to do the master cylinder but not the caliper.

my belt just snapped to... maybe ill do a vid... gotta find a camera...

just remove belt gaurds, footpeg bracket, swingarm section, rear wheel, work belt on front, put wheelup and start axle, work on rear pulley tighten axle n put section back on and gaurds.done.very easy and straight forward.

Remove the piece on the swing arm front sprocket cover put it on the front sprocket first then rotate the rear tire to get it on. If it doesn't get on the tensioner right give a full turn of the tire in both directions and it should slide up.

Wolfo I don't think id recommend that method for the 03's. But that could be just me.

oh, didn't realize it was an 03, yea 03 was more involved due to being more fragile

The "hidden box" is the segment of the top right rear swingarm with the bolts holding it on. The segment needs to come out to get the belt off.

Aside from that loosen the rear wheel 10-12 revolutions remove the pulley cover and you pretty much have it.

belt replacement on the XB's is about 25% of the job it is on a sportster or big twin. the bridge or box on the right side that is removeable precludes having to disassemble the entire ass end of the bike as you do on a sporster or big twin. big twin belt replacements are an all day job cause they're left hand drive and even the entire primary assembly has to be removed. a real PIA job. the XB's are damn simple and i think it was brilliant on buell's part to add the removeable plate on the right side that allows the belt to be fed into the swingarm as opposed to having to remove entire arm.

here ya go. simple as i can make it. hope this helps.
1. elevate bike so that rear wheel is at least 4 inches off ground and bike stable to work on. method to do this up to you.
2. remove belt guards. use caution with 2003 models as hardware not interchangeable and should keep track of which fastener goes in which threaded hole, etc
3. remove front pulley cover
4. remove rear axle pinch bolt which is on bottom left rear of swingarm
5. optional but i remove both caliper bolts and hang caliper out of the way to save time and speed up tire reinstall. hang it with tape or bungee cord....NOT the brake hose.
6. loosen axle....counter-clockwise loosens it. put block of wood under tire to take up space between floor and tire. now entirely remove axle and let tire rest on block of wood.
7. optional...remove 2 nuts holding belt pulley onto studs. not required but again speeds reassembly
8. remove pulley assembly. nuts interchange so no need to mark front and rear
9. look on right upper part of swing arm. you will see 4 allen head fasteners. that is the BRIDGE. remove those fasteners and remove bridge. remember where each fastener goes as not interchangeable
10. remove wheel and remove belt.
11. REASSEMBLY IS REVERSE of the above. do NOT crimp, bend, nick or otherwise twist new belt. reinstall everything, torque rear axle as prescribed, spin wheel to test belt to guards clearance, check pulley for correct runout on face of belt.....you're done.

wan2know: was going by memory and just looked at one of my XB's and amend above post with following:
between step 8 and 9 i would do the following which i forgot: on right side at footpeg area is large plate held to frame with 4 allen fasteners. it holds the peg and other devices. remove the fasteners and gently swing entire plate out of the way for belt install.
also....the axle pinch bolt is at bottom right side of swingarm, NOT bottom left. my mistake.
