not a fan of the shorai strictly due to pricing....what shawn said above on the Big Crank. they are deka batteries available at batterymart.com tremendous CCA's....great warranty....all USA componentry and manufacturing right up the road from me....AGM style....terminals are outstanding. batterymart.com usually has free freight on them and priced under $80.

I have a lithium iron battery in my XB. Biggest mistake I ever made. The cold weather performance is terrible. I got one through a company called starkpower. I bought the battery with the highest CCA that I could for my bike and it still performs terribly anytime the mercury dips into the low 40s. TOTALY sucks for me cause I have a heated jacket liner and grips that made cold weather riding a non issue. Now my battery makes it so it doesn't happen as often as Id like.
Go with lunatics suggestion! Wish I'd have been better informed before I made my purchase.
BTW I'm only speaking from my experience with the lithium iron battery I got from starkpower. All of them may not exhibit the same terrible cold weather performance.

good post. that seems to be the universal complaint with these type of batteries. and the pricing just not competitive.

I have a top end battery from Batteries Plus. Works great. To be truthful though, my neighbor owns three of them and hooked me up with a great deal.

EBR used Shorai as OEM, never used one before

[up]BatteriesPlus, have a Duracell 220 CCA currently installed in my 9S here got a military discount too:D

I got a lithium from Antigravity Batteries a year and a half ago ($200) in the middle of winter as my original gave out. Worked great, until next winter. No trickle charger as is shouldn't be necessary. Denver rider so cold ass winter at times and with 3 months of no riding it gave up, sent it back and they said there must be a parasitic drain (don't have one). Offered me prorate warranty first, then after going back and forth, said it isn't even a warranty claim Don't have one so I continually expressed my dissatisfaction with the prorate warranty. After a few different calls with the same guy, I got a higher cranking battery for shipping cost only and bought a lithium charger. Love the light weight and smaller size and paid only about $60.00 for all. At least didn't get hosed for the price I paid originally. If this one gives out in the next 3 years, I'm done with lithium.

So I brought my battery into work today and hooked it up to the GR8 battery tester/charger and it said it had 280 CCA. If it is testing good, I am guessing a bad cell that isn't showing up?

GR8, you must be a GM mechanic. Was the battery just low on charge? GR8's are really picky. If it passes that, then I would guess that it's a good battery. Charge it and load test it after a day or so using an old school tester. I've noticed that GR8's can pass a battery but if I load test it the next day it will sometimes fail. It's only happened a couple times but it has happened.

Nope not a GM guy. Do all the toys for a Toyota dealership. Battery is always on a tender when not ridden at home. I think I still have an old hot box to do a load test. I just don't want to shell out for a new battery and find out it's not the problem. Tho I am leaning towards it, I still am not sure.

The bike will crank, sometimes I get the comm error and the cluster goes off and it stops cranking and I will be able to crank it again. I haven't had to jump start it. I am gathering the comm error is due to lack of voltage. I am going to have to put a meter on it while it cranks to see if the voltage drops below the acceptable threshold. I'm pretty good at electrical, been doing it for 20-ish years. Sometimes its the easy things that stump ya.

I no longer have an ignition switch. I removed mine and added RFID. I also have a switch hardwired to the relays to bypass the RFID if it ever fails. I am going to tear it all apart soon anyways as I am changing the front fairing from the Firebolt front fairing
