2008 firebolt xb 12r how high has anyone extended the
rev limiter with a filter and pipe mod. I keep bouncing off the limiter. how far is a waste?

Long stroke and small bore = low revs. I need to do more research but I think the valvetrain will give up before a piston cracks on these motors that rev higher.

i was reading up on the exhaust shootout test report on ASBs website and it seems that with the 12, a higher rev limiter is pretty much useless. depending on what pipe u have, the jardine and the drummer made their peak hp at 6800rpm.

what i did notice though, is that with the 9s, most of the pipes made peak horsepower at 7400rpm. i was under the impression that the stock rev limiter was 7200. please correct me if i am wrong.

my 08 is set at 7200 and i have a jardine that pulls like crazy to the limiter it feels like it is still building and bing right into the limiter it feels like it could pull another 1000

more rpms=more power. It would have more power at 15,000rpm if it could handle it. Rev limiter is to limit damage to the engine. Engineers decided 7200 rev limiter based on engine components. At least this is how I understand it.

Bouncing off the rev-limiter of '04-'05 XB12s predictably leads to failure @ rod-crankshaft. Later models are beefed-up here.

If I could get mine to run correctly between 1k & 5k rpm, I'd lower rev limits gain more reliability. :)

i agree aptbldr... i have a big bore in mine and a bunch of other stuff to gain alot more low end torque so i dont have to rev up high to save on the motor... i usually shift at 25 to 2800 cruisin and drag racing at the track the light comes on at 5700...
