Rev Matching

i always blip the throttle on downshifts. its why i two finger brake. the guys in the advanced msf course wanted me to use my whole hand but i disagreed with them because of that reason. and i can already lift the rear with a two finger pull.

why [mad] face?

this isnt common knowledge? im not track star, but i always blip on downshifts just to ease the engine braking. but two finger, and blipping thats useful info there!

excellent kona. chopping the throttle, pulling in the clutch, and banging down to the next lower gear is the single worst thing you can do to a motorycle gearbox next to running it with no lube in it.

so rev matching on a downshift is bad? [confused] you make it sound like its really harsh on equipment but it feels a lot smoother than simply letting the clutch out and letting the drivetrain speed up the engine. care to elaborate instead of just being condescending?

Yeah i have a hard time believing matching on a downshift is bad. Truckers do it all the time. I do it constantly. I would think it is better than just letting go of the clutch and letting the belt/tranny take the brunt of all the force.

You're good kona.  I don't think he meant what you think he meant.

yea def read his post wrong i think. it seemed sarcastic initially but i dont think it is. he was elaborating how chopping the throttle is bad. i need more coffee its too early.

I've always rev matched - in my M3 and on the Buell. Although I'm not proficient at 3 pedaling the M3. No real need to practice that on the street as I usually keep pretty good distance.

I've asked many other people - mainly during MSF courses if they rev match and they all look at me weird [confused]

I am hearing fewer & fewer riders rev matching these days. It's even become acceptable technique in WSB!

Throttle blipping on the Buell is extra fun because that big flywheel requires a lot more gas to build the revs than a comparably sized I-4 with light flywheel.

thats for sure, i find its a lot harder to do it properly on the I4's too. i usually over rev them because they rev so fast and the rpm range is huge. good thing is that there isnt much engine braking because of the lack of torque so its not as noticeable when you screw up. i have a lot less saddle time on them compared to my buell so i suspect id get better if i owned one.

Always match my rev's on downshifts as well. Smooth and steady wins the race ;)

Plus all my riding buddies say my bike sounds especially downright scary when bliping on downshifts prior to curves or during heavy braking.

If i am reading the post above right he said blip before you pull in the clutch? makes total sense lol NOT
