I don't know the speed limit of the road, but if he was traveling the limit and she wasn't turning from a stop, that's nearly a head-on accident. I've seen some pretty bad ones but none that looked that desolated to me.

The speed limit there is 45.

That intersection is big enough, you have to be "moving" in the location that the truck is in when you are making a left there.

I'm sure she was nearly at speed making a left, texting or talking on the phone, not paying attention, but who knows, I'm just assuming from the way all other cagers that drives that way. Hopefully, they figure out really what happened, not just what the driver "assumes" happened.

some of you guys are going to tear me a new ass for what i am going to say but, according to the report the Uly came through on a yellow, this would put both at fault.not that most none bike riding drivers are aware of us anyway.last year a 43 year old woman with learners permit made a left and hit my brotherinlaw head on.he is still recovering .You guys who flash your highbeams at a intersection could be asking for trouble, usually if you flash your lights you are telling the other to go ahead.do what you have to do to get their attention horn, stand on the pegs and scream whatever just get them to see you. rant over my thoughts go out to all his friends and family.does anyone know if he was a forum member

it says the truck had a Flashing yellow, which makes sense for a turning lane, the non-turning vehicles still have the right of way.

There's never a shortage of reminders to be safe. It's a shame THESE type of reminders are at such a high cost. Best wishes to his family and friends.

motorcyclist had a green (driving through the intersection south), truck driver had a flashing yellow (turning left) and was required to yield. Truck driver is at fault in this case. Both "TURN" lanes have flashing yellow in both directions.

This intersection is 45 and in my mind, part of the problem with flashing yellow. Before they installed those, you could "guarantee" that you were protected with a green, not so anymore. These just add to the confusion that is driving and should be removed.

The simple choice is to add longer greens to the intersection.

Saw this on PDX channel 2 "breaking news" yesterday.. I'm deeply saddened. the rider was 60 yrs old and was on his uly

Tad, first person i thought of was you when i saw this. Same bike too.
I went by the crash sight and for the truck to be moved at the angle it is in, I suspect the rider was speeding.
The driver may have not seen the motorcycle due to his speed 'cause he hit that truck hard!!

RJ, yeah, it gave me a pretty weird feeling seeing this.. I've been through that intersection many times, and yeah, it's easy to carry alot of speed through there because it's a big, open area.. I hope that wasn't the case. Just looks like he had "0" reaction time..

Next time I ride though there it will be with a heavy heart..

May our fellow brother Bueller rest in peace, and may the Lord bring comfort to those around him. All of us look out for each other and when one falls, we all feel it. Be safe fellow riders. The one ultimately responsible for your safety in the person staring back at you in the mirror.

Sounds like a big part of the problem is the lights. Here in Ontario if the left turn lane light is green or flashing yellow, oncoming traffic has a red and must stop,If someone was not from the area they might think the other would have a red light. As the woman was a local she should have known and a life was lost.

.You guys who flash your highbeams at a intersection could be asking for trouble,

Raven: i NEVER said flash your bike's headlights. i said put your high-beams on. if you have stock wiring that momentary flip of the lights to another bulb is an attention getter. if you have the wiring mod you'll now have both bulbs activated. wanted to clarify.

I do that quite often too, it actually works well to get attention from cagers.. having the extra brightness during the day really makes a big difference in your "presence" .. no flashing, just light-up that high beam. Headlight "modulators" work well to draw attention also..
