Soooo .... I put my XB on the dyno for tuning on monday ... and just my luck, after the warmup on the very first pull on the dyno to see what we were working with my Jardine pipe literally blows the back part off, breaks it's mounting arm, and blows all the packing out of it ... Luckily for me, the guy tuning it was a friend of mine and had a riveter, a TIG welder, and some spare packing handy ... So I rebuilt/rewelded it right there on the spot and slapped it back on so I could finish tuning it ... Got a LOT of the crappy spots smoothed out and gained a few HP with a little more torque here and there ... But man, what a headache right off the bat ... I've read it all over the place on here and now I'm saying it myself ... These pipes are ******** ...

Very first chance I get I'm shopping through the pipe vendors on here and getting a REAL exhaust and another dyno tune ... Screw this stupid Jardine ...

never had a Jardine but I've heard that people who have them recount one of two stories, either they rock, great pipe etc, etc....or what you've expressed as the norm, piece of **** that falls apart.

At least your buddy was able to help you out and you've still got a can til you can get another (if you have the $$$ go with a KEDA, I would if I could afford one :D )

Getting a Torque Thrust exhaust shipped to a customer as I type! They look fantastic and appear to perform just as well! [up] Let us know if we can help.

Otherwise, all of the other options that you'll find on this forum are solid options as well. Jardines seem to get the most negative feedback mainly due to what you experienced.

It now has a pretty good dip in power around the 4.5 - 5.2ish mark on the dyno readouts ... I'll post up a pic when I get home of the before and after tuning runs ...

Some people might have had decent results with their Jardine's ... but I've had nothing but blown out rivets and disappearing packing from this one ... I literally cannot keep it full of packing ... The rivets I can deal with, that's just a few minutes to put in a new one ... I packed it really good about 2 months (maybe 2.5k miles) ago with fiberglass 4-stroke packing from cyclegear and riveted it back together (and yes, I did a good job because I wanted it to last) ... and when it blew apart, about a fist sized chunk blew out and that was all that was left ... I was like [confused] are you freaking kidding me?! I JUST PACKED THIS THING!! ... the brackets that it uses are the most aggravating thing because the holes aren't threaded like the stock pipe's brackets are so you have to finagle around a wrench on the other side to get the nut on the bolts that hold the chin fairing on ... the strap is loose ... and the bracket that holds up the exit pipe is weak as hell (as evidenced by it just breaking in half when the rivets let loose) ...

I remember reading on here that somebody had the back half of the can blow off like mine did and they ran over it!! ... IN A DAMN CURVE!!! ... and it just about pogo'd them over the bars lolol ... Luckily for me mine just did it on the damn dyno ... every time I think about it, It aggravates me ... that's ridiculous ...

That's crazy - you would think Jardine could be found liable if such an occurance resulted in personal injury.

Great suggestion greasy !! ... Imma keep an eye out for a good priced one....

and yes vtech ... I completely agree ... there would have to be some kind of safety recall if something like that was actually reported but I've only heard of one other failure like this while someone was riding ... the member is on here I just can't remember the username ...

I have a Hawk on a ULY.. Runs great and cheap to buy. Randy is great to work with. I got mine w/ a 2 day turn around. Am working on getting a XB9s back on the road a picked up a couple of weeks ago(bought A wreck).
Will put a Hawk on it also.

I am one of those that have had good luck with the Jardine. When replacing the rivets use stainless ones, not aluminum! Put all of the rivets in and tighten slightly. Then check for tension or binding so that when you tighten them they don't have any undo tension on them. When you repack them only take off the end near the collector, you only need access from one end. No sense in replacing rivets if its not nessesary. When I repacked mine I found that the wire screen that surrounds the metal perforated core was shot so I made one from heavier wire mesh. It seems to spread out alittle keeping the packing from actually touching the core. I used the FMF blanket type packing and it seems to work ok. The whole package fits in the can once its cut to the proper length. Put transmission hose over the two springs that hold the can to the collector to help dampin some vibration and stop the spring on the right side from rubbing(metal to metal) with the bracket that bolts the 90 degree collector bracket to the bike. My Jardine is the aluminum one, not the stainless or carbon fiber. I hope this is helpful to someone.

I used FMF packing as well ... and I only took off the rear cap to repack it ... Mine is the stainless can ... It's also a GP1 not an RT1 that most people seemed to go with (it came on the bike) ... Good tips there tho !! ... [up]
