looking to get a set of pant for this riding season. Should i be looking at riding pants or overpants? I was looking at a pair of icon overpants but with these, what size? Their size chart doesnt say.

any brands you recommend?

I'd say it really depends on your own needs. Ideally you'll have both, but budget may not allow that. You're better off buying one good pair than two cheap pairs.

Over pants will be your best bet for casual cruising, and being able to dress for your destination, like if you are commuting to work. They'll also have more comforts like removeable liners, vents & pockets making them more versatile.

Riding pants will offer less versatility, but will be more suited to actually riding. They'll fit snugger and generally offer better protection, like if you want to get a knee down & carve canyons.

Either way, you're going to be immensely better off than youll be with jeans. Ensure you're getting something with armour, or at least pockets for placing armour into. Also look for pants that have the ability to zip to a jacket so you can create a one-piece. If you're needeng pants that are water-proof, make sure they are also breathable.

Some brands that I have good experience with, and would recommend, include Alpine Stars, Motorrad, Joe Rocket & Belstaff.

Look for online sales but try them on before buying. Good luck!

I have 2 piece leathers and it provides me with much protection but the issue is going places with leather bottoms imo. They are comfortable but going in places with them seems out of the ordinary. If I'm going out to just ride I wear them. If it's cold out (late fall or spring) I wear them. I don't bother most the time because it's not ideal because bulky won't pack down in my bags and they are in no way formal.

Honestly you would be best off finding adventure pants and jacket for all conditions that can fit ad over pants also.

I have both it depends on what I am doing as to what I wear. A ride out in the twisties calls for leathers, a ride to the office is overpants.

Yup, once you've arrived at your destination, shed your helmet, jacket & gloves, you just become that creepy guy hanging around in leather pants. [smirk]

im also curious about this. 98% of the time I'm in jeans. I would like to have a good set of over pants, but they are all so bulky. I want to find a good snug fitting pair of over pants. Im just more comfortable when stuff fits the way it should.

I am in love with my Motoport Kevlar mesh over pants as well as a Kevlar mesh jacket. It offers the protection of leather with the venting of mesh. It is a great set up for warm climates. I have some Gortex liners for it if it rains, which is rare in AZ. In fact, I have never used the liner. I just use shorts or jeans under it, depending on the weather. It is fine down to the upper 40's with jeans. 60's on up and I am wearing shorts. It is great to ride with protection and still wear shorts at the office.

The Motoport products are expensive, but I think they are worth it. You can find them used for 50% of the retail cost, which is what I did. If you buy new, you can have it custom fitting to you. They also make a stretch Kevlar, which will be better in cooler weather.
