Can someone point me in the direction for a right side scoop kit for an 04 XB12 Firebolt?

All the kits I have seen state they are for later years....

Order from HD. There is a larger thread here on the site I am unable to find at the moment. I believe it is $47 or something for the inner and outer right side scoop from the dealer. One of the other members may be able to give you more info.

Cool ... found the one on ASB going to order it from there. Should be here before my Special Ops heat shields I ordered get here :)

That one will fit. I would rethink that purchase though it is a stock size rss just in CF.

I would pick a different scoop out one that will help with cooling not rice points. ;)

RSS Thread

The large scoop is amazing. I love it, you'll notice your fan only go on after you turn the bike off. Never while riding (pretty much)

Just got my Special Ops order in Morbid, I waited over 3 months before I got my pipe and shield. Hopefully yours is out sooner.

I am assuming the one from ASB is the RS scoop from the Uly comfort kit. Does it come with the header shield as well ?

You can order the parts individually so you don't have to buy that heat shield.

Just to clarify if some don't know (I didn't ) but there are really 3 different oem "right side scoops":

The first one is the factory plastic piece that came on most xb's (I think all up until the end of 2009). It really isn't much of a scoop at all.

The second is the large scoop that is part of the Ulysses comfort kit.

The third is the oem right side "scoop" on the 2010 xb models (and some other models I believe like maybe california or foreign models). It is sort of like an in between, like a small scoop. I just bought it for my bike from HD for less than $20, and ASB I believe also has it for the same price (plus shipping). It is a much cheaper alternative and while I'm sure does not catch quite as much air as the larger scoop, it would help I'm sure and IMO looks more appealing.

That is correct regarding airflow. You won't catch as much, but depending on climate you may not need as much. Down here in Texas, I had to go with larger scoop for hot summer months(which is almost year round)!

Get the bigger scoop. Even up here in PA it in the Summer my fan would run til I got the scoop. Now that I have it the fan never runs unless I am really pushing hard through twisties with no cool down time. Not to mention it keeps so much heat off of your leg.

Well I'm in Florida where it's about as hot as it get's all year round, and even without a RSS my bike is not excessively hot (now that I fixed my lean condition). I'm simply getting the RSS because it just can't hurt, I like how it looks, and it's very cheap. I personally don't like how the Ulysses comfort kit scoop looks.

I also don't know why most think the fan running is a bad thing, I see that as a good thing...

It means the rear cylinder is on its way to over heating and even though it won't with the fan running, letting it get really hot all the time isn't a good idea because some say it can lead to the cylinder leaking oil. Now this does happen naturally as seals wear out but without the scoop most say it happens a lot faster. I like the oil in the bike. I think I will stick with my cheap "ugly" comfort scoop. :D

If you like it that's fine I wasn't even calling it "ugly", I just said I personally don't like the way it looks. I find that the fan cools the bike down very fast and actually I find that now that I fixed the problem I had where my bike was running lean and very hot, my fan almost never runs anymore. As hot as it is here, and in stop and go traffic from time to time in a city, the fan still doesn't come on without any RSS. I believe it is just the stock lean fuel maps that cause the hot condition. As soon as I changed the fuel maps my bike ran significantly cooler, it was like a whole new bike.

My only point is that if your bike runs very hot and the fan runs all the time, a RSS is not a good fix, there's most likely some other issue like the bike running lean (which I believe all the factory tuned bikes do).

Which one of these "many" scoops looks the best on the bike when compared with the left side one? I'm talking about looking at it head on.
