Rivot Eliminator

I was wondering if anyone has done a rivit elimination on their own for the points cover. I know i can pick the kit up from ASB but being someone who likes to tinker, I figued id give it a shot. Givin the fact that i dont even know whats behind the cover I'd like to get some imput first before I start hacking away.

There is a metal plate back there, about 1/8" thick. I don't think it would be difficult to run a tap through it.

If you drill the rivets out and pull off the original cover, behind it there is a steel plate.Unscrew the fixings holding this in place and take this off.What I did then was to fix nuts behind this plate(at first I did this temporarily with blu tak but then used a metal adhesive).Refit the plate and then refit the cover with the appropriate stainless fasteners. Easy!!! I also used the same idea to remove the rivets from the bellypan.

I did the same thing he did ^^^. I ran a 1/4 20 tap threw it and picked up two 1/2 X 1/4 20 Allen key screws. worked great

Just got done!!! this went way faster than i expected. Went to lowes and got a 10/32 dril bit, 10/32 tap and some 10/32 X 1/2 inch allen head machine screws.

Driled out the rivots. tapped the holes in the plate behind the cover and reinstalled.

Way easier than I expected!!

I just did the same thing tonight. I have no idea why Buell chose to rivet those plates rather then just bolt them. Weird.

I think the original hole is too big for a 10-32 thread, but it did seem to work ok.

I used the 10/32 tap becaused I managed to get the operator over at ASB to tell me exactly what was in eliminator kit. She told me there was a 10/32 bit, 10/32 tap, two 10/32 X 5/8 machine screw and four washers.

I'm glad it worked out thogh!!

I managed to find a free points cover too, i think I'll be able to make it look cool somehow.

I just got rid of the rivots on the chin fairing as well. It was the same process just took a bit longer, given there are 4 rivots to pop, and I had a hard time drilling em out..looks good though, pics to follow.

I think I'm going to remove it, take it to a powdercoating place, and have it powdercoated black.
