Hi all, any help welcome.
I have owned my 2002 xb9r for just over 8 years absolutely trouble free, BUT after a great ride one Sunday I put the beaut to bed in the garage, the next weekend I got it back out and it idles rough and coughs and splutters, I took it up the road but after only 1/4 of a mile had to return home, I have checked all wire connections, fitted new hd plugs, fitted new coil,, fitted new battery, changed fuel, but still to no difference!!!
It will always start first turn and run fine for around 10-20 seconds then drops into its f^<¥ you mode.
The fuel pump primes and states running ok, just can't seem to work out what may have happened over night to make it do this.
Any ideas other than what I have already done would be most great-full

I too think you need to check for an intake leak. It doesn't really happen over night. It just so happens after the bike went away hot and cooled down the issue popped up. I don't know all the scientific crap behind why that is but if you've owned your bike since 2002 and this is your first time having issues with intake seals, you did really good!
BTW the bike is a 2003xb9 right? That's when I believe the firebolt debuted.
Also check that your battery connections are good and tight.
Good luck

Thanks chick, it's a late 2002, early xb9r with only 8k on the clock, I will take a look into the intake seals this weekend, fingers crossed it's that, it's never let me down before, only the drive belt snapping through a stone off the road,

I hope you find your problem easily. I wonder if the ecm has stored codes? google how to check for codes on the buell xb and take a look or buy a service manual.

if you have ecm spy check your afv value, sometimes mine decides it wants to be different, I usually reset to 100
and it will take a few minutes to clear up. just some of my experiences good advice above also

dean: in addition to the above advice check:
1-with multimeter on DC volts and bike @ approx. 2500rpm....do you see 13.1-14.4 volts? if so good. if not check the #77 connector behind the front pulley cover.
2-is your IAT sensor properly connected? you have to remove the 4 bolts from the air filter box base and lift up to be sure. if it is loose or the sensor has been nicked or broken it will cause huge problems.

Thanks guys, the IAT sensor makes no difference wether it is connected or not, the em lights up when it is not connected but doesn't seem to make much difference, do you think that maybe faulty? The battery is new ish and is always on a optimate.
The fuel was from another garage.
What happens with the #77 connector lunatic?

Well I think I've made a little bit of headway, the tickover was running at under 1k so I upped it with the manual adjuster so it sits at just over 1k and now it doesn't stall and seems to tick over a lot better, however I have noticed that the fan no longer cuts in when I shut it off, it is at running temp and always used to cut in when I turned it off.
Any thoughts from you guys on this? But at least it seems to be running better, I will take it out for a ride on Sunday and see what happens, not just my fingers crossed but everything...haha.
